      User Researcher Interview

      16 Aug 2021
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at X in July 2021

      Interview

This was the most unprofessional and disrespectful interview process I have dealt with in my career. It says I received an offer but declined—this is not entirely true: After my interview process (described below), I was offered the job in a Zoom call, with details on pay, etc., and I was sent the benefits package information afterward. A full week later, no letter came. But I was reassured that there was just one signature left to OK it, and they sent me final numbers that were approved by the finance team. Three days later, I was told that the offer letter was not coming because of team re-evaluation. But I was told that I could expect an update in one or two weeks. After two weeks, I was promised an answer by "the end of the week" on when the letter for my offer was coming. No answer came. Finally, the recruiter graciously told me to move on, because the director was going to keep dragging their feet. So, I was: offered a job, made to wait 10 days until I was told that it was on hold while "departmental needs" were being figured out. I waited 14 more days and was promised an answer after that time—one way or another—but it did not come. Then I was told the exact same thing: "Departmental needs" were still being figured out, so on hold. No definitive answer, just dragging one's feet until I go away. It's not quite ghosting, but it's very close to ghosting. It's more like filibustering, hoping I would go away in the meantime. They reneged on multiple promises, including a job offer. Completely unacceptable way to recruit talent. Do not trust anything until you see it in writing, even when they congratulate you and tell you to celebrate. Interview process: - Interviewed with recruiter - Interviewed with hiring manager - Gave a 45-minute presentation on my research - Did three separate 2-on-1 interviews, 45 minutes each - Verbal offer came later that week after the presentation and 2-on-1 interviews

      User Researcher Interview

      4 Dec 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at X in Nov 2017

      Interview

Application: I submitted my resume and cover letter in the end of Oct, and receive the phone interview invitation after 2 days. Interview Process: The HR sent an email to request some information via email, and then scheduled my interview in the next week. I was supposed to interview with hiring manager, but for some reasons, hiring manager was not available. My interviewer became another user researcher. Few days after the phone interview, I received the rejection letter.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

A hypothesized question: If you found out that some users at Twitter do not use the messages feature at twitter to share with their friends. Instead, they copy and paste these twits into other app (e.g., facebook) to share it with their friends. How do you investigate it and how do you improve it?

      User Researcher Interview

      26 July 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at X in July 2015

      Interview

Hiring manager contacted me by email after I submitted my application online, and the initial setup for the phone interview explaining the positions went smoothly. It was very standardized, and felt like she was detached and reading from a script. She told me to send on questions about the positions, as well as my availability for a second interview, in an email, which I did. She also told me that there *would* be a second interview. I have emailed her twice in the past 10 days since this first interview, with my availability and questions, with absolutely no response. Very unprofessional.
