Believing that vibrant democracies depend on informed and engaged citizen-leaders, CEO Julia Middleton founded the organization in 1989 to provide leadership development programs to business and community luminaries in the UK. The programs include seminars -- offered in more than 40 locations across the country -- that teach everyone from corporate executives to leaders of local not-for-profits to embrace diversity, engage with their local communities, and gain new perspectives. Common Purpose also runs programs ouside the UK, through Common Purpose International, in countries such as the Netherlands, Germany, South Africa, and Sweden.
