I worked at Freelancer full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Great Offices
    - Inclusive Culture
    - Fun Environment
    - Very Intelligent Employees (able to learn from some of the best people in the country)
    - Freelancer pays staff decent salaries and there are loads of perks to the job too
    - Free Food and Drinks
    - Every Friday the entire company participates in Town Hall and its a really positive way to include all staff members to participate and then a huge lunch spread is offered to all employees afterwards.
    - Company has a very good tech stack so a very good place to learn especially for graduates.
    - Freelancer hires very talented engineers and very good graduates from good universities.
    - Very fast paced industry has been enjoyable as well.

Overall I have to say I loved working at Freelancer and it is a great company to work at and provides its staff with an amazing career plan and growth.

    Cons

Employees certainly get a great deal of responsibility and autonomy in their roles .... this can sometimes be at the detriment to the company. Some employees take advantage of this and get away with not doing a great deal of work that they are trusted to do.

The negative reviews I have seen on Glassdoor I feel are not true and are generally from staff members that have not been performing in their role. They get away with not performing well. The company's focus should be on hiring trusted individuals that do not take advantage of the level autonomy they are given.

A further Con would be that only employees that have been in the business a number of years are able to work from home - however I think if everyone was given ability to work from home productivity would be an all time low.

    Advice to Management

Only hire great people and do not compromise.

    Difficult Interview

    Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took a week. I interviewed at Freelancer (Sydney).

    Interview

Very thorough technical test - To get selected you will need to have very good knowledge in whatever specific area you are applying for.

    Interview Questions

    • What will the output of this code be.   1 Answer
    • On the paper provided, write a function that does... (some behaviour)   1 Answer

    Negotiation

They will use every tiny technical test mistakes to haggle you down. They will try to push it down as low as they possibly can so stick to your guns. The job is very demanding so you should demand a high pay - If they don't fold, just walk away.
