Mecalux puts its business development on the shelf. The company makes storage products that range from metallic shelving systems to automated warehouses (racking/conveyors/software). Customers include Academy Sports & Outdoors, Hitachi, Sara Lee, and Wal-Mart. The company has worldwide operations through a dozen production centers in Eastern and Western Europe, and North and South America. Its subsidiaries include Esmena and Interlake Mecalux. Founder and chairman José Luis Carrillo Rodríguez controls nearly 60% of Mecalux through his affiliation with investment firm Leina (Spain). He founded the company in 1969, after he made light shelving for the previous three years in a workshop in Barcelona.
