Mission Our mission is to protect the world's food supply.
We’re a scale-up with substance. Our culture isn’t for coasters, ego, or politics - it’s for people who want to do meaningful work, push themselves, and be part of something bigger. Here’s what sets us apart:
1. Performance with Purpose We don’t have to manufacture meaning - we’re already doing meaningful work. We’re solving real problems that matter to the food supply, the environment, and rural communities. People don’t join for perks - they join because they believe in what we’re building. We attract people who care about outcomes, not optics.
2. A Championship Team, Not Just a Team of Champions We hold a high bar - and we back each other. This isn’t a place for ego, coasting, or self-preservation. We’re a team of high performers who collaborate, not compete. We lift each other through standards, not slogans. We hire people who want to be great - and help others get there too.
3. Clarity is a Core Motivator From standards and rituals to frameworks and check-ins - we make things tangible. We reduce ambiguity and reward those who bring focus. There’s structure (competency frameworks, OKRs, role levels) without bureaucracy. Everyone knows what’s expected and where they’re heading. We create psychological safety through clarity, not comfort.
4. Impact, Not Time, Defines Progress Promotions, pay, and recognition are earned through impact - not time in role. We’re a meritocracy. That means fast growth for some and honest coaching for others. Our People Leaders are expected to be brave and constructive, not just warm. We reward performance - and support people to get there.
5. Fast, Focused, and Feedback-Driven Pace is part of our DNA - but so is refinement. We know the risks (burnout, reactivity) and we actively balance them with systems, feedback loops, and strategic alignment. Mistakes happen, and we use them for momentum, not blame. We’re building sophistication without losing our speed edge.
6. Trust is the Starting Point - Not the Reward We trust people early - to work flexibly, take ownership, and make decisions. But that trust is matched with expectations. Flexibility here means freedom to deliver, not freedom from delivery. We offer autonomy - and expect accountability in return.
7. We Scale Culture Like Product We operationalise culture the same way we build product - with intention, iteration, and pace. From strength profiling to rituals, competency frameworks to standards - our culture isn’t just a vibe. It’s a system. We don’t leave culture to chance - we build it, together.
Description Onside has its roots in the agriculture sector and a bold vision to tackle one of the most important issues facing food production, globally.
The first version of our check-in app was launched to the New Zealand market in 2015. The app quickly gained momentum and we began to build a team of experts based in Christchurch. In 2020 Onside raised a $2.5m seed round at the Icehouse Venture annual showcase event to expand into Australia. Onside now reaches farms far and wide across Australia, New Zealand and the UK. With over 2 million check-ins to date, our story is still unfolding.
Backed by a growing team of passionate individuals, loyal customers, and dedicated industry partners, we're just getting started.
