RGC Resources is not only sticking to its knitting (the regulated distribution of natural gas) it is also staying close to home (Roanoke, Virginia). RGC's Roanoke Gas unit distributes natural gas to 56,000 customers in Roanoke. The holding company's Application Resources provides information system services for the utility industry. RGC Resources has taken the proceeds from the sale of its noncore operation to reinvest in its core gas distribution business. In 2008 it installed nine miles of plastic mains and replaced 684 steel main-to-meter service lines with modern plastic service lines (a 40% increase over 2007).
