Regular visitors to airport car rental counters know Vanguard Car Rental (VCR) by its Alamo Rent A Car and National Car Rental brands. Together, Alamo and National maintain a fleet of more than 300,000 vehicles. The companies also operate from more than 4,000 locations, primarily in North America but also in the Caribbean, Latin America, and the Asia-Pacific region. VCR's global network is further expanded through agreements with other vehicle rental agencies, including Europcar. The company was acquired by rival Enterprise Rent-A-Car in 2007. The combined Enterprise-Alamo-National operation is the industry leader among US car rental companies, ahead of rivals Hertz and Avis Budget Group.
