Zi aims to make mobile communication eZier. The company sells embedded predictive text input software to wireless handset providers, operating system developers, and set-top box makers. Used on mobile phones, PDAs, and other devices with limited keyboards, its eZiText software enables e-mail, messaging, and Web browsing using shorthand in almost any language. Zi's Qix application is a search tool for locating content and features on mobile phones. A receiver for four Lancer Group companies holds about 40% of the company's shares. Zi received an unsolicited acquisition bid from Nuance Communications in 2008.
