Not an empowering place for Leaders of Marginalized identity
Pros
Good pay, good benefits, good mission
Cons
management and some campaign leaders are very far out of touch from frontline communities on the ground. They choose tokenized frontline leaders and lean on them as crutches. Staff compete for accomplishments, and the culture is white, alcohol drinking, mostly elite educated who are constantly trying to out do one another. Management does not know how to support or supervise individuals from frontline communities. These often young elite college educated activists have some level of skill but lack heart and connection, they truly think they know the "right" way to organize. What they know is the "white" way to organize. I spent about 3 years here and after seeing how they silenced youth at a so called youth led action, then demonized staff for advocating, I was done. I will never advise another POC or LGBTQ person to work here.
