Pros

If you want to work on cool projects this is the place, but do not expect career development. A lot of complacent “senior “ people at all levels who aged into their position, and will not help you grow. Many young people on the operations side do not spend much time here, but this is a great place to have on your resume when you’re ready to go to a developer.

Cons

Poor leadership from the top down. Leadership invisible, plenty of bosses, though. Full of lifelong employees which makes you think it’s a great place until you work with them for a couple of hours. They are master builders in their own minds but ultimately produce no actual work, expecting “their” team (re: peers) to do everything for them, can’t even set up a calendar invite or make a meeting agenda, never mind working together to plan and execute. Reactive not proactive - you could list 20 serious potential issues and be told that they know what they’re doing, so stay in your lane and don’t worry about it. When the issues inevitably cause a delay they finally wake up, only to say “it is what it is” and tell you how they think you should fix it, shrugging off your concerns. So if you care about your work, you’ll be frustrated. If you just want to keep your head down, do the bare minimum, collect a very high salary, and go home then you might just be the next executive Vice President. All you have to do is find a senior guy and do all of his busy work and show up every single day before 8 am and stay past 5pm for about 20-25 years, and you’ll finally become a master builder who can never be wrong.

Pros

Good pay, big jobs, discounted employee stock plan.

Cons

Too many bosses, no / not many leaders. Little to no transparency about the business plan/financials, even though this is a public company. A lot of cliques and high paid employees with fancy titles that ultimately mean nothing. The only difference between a project manager and a vice president is the salary - otherwise, the title is meaningless, a VP neither has direct reports nor the authority to act as an officer of the company. Although there are numerous VP’s, FVP’s, SVP’s, and EVP’s, there is a veiled, almost invisible hierarchy that is impossible to understand unless you have spent a decade working with these people. The company might as well be called AECOM/Teldar Paper, given the number of vice presidents showing up in a suit and making zero contribution, all while simultaneously making the jobs of their “underlings” infinitely more difficult, even though, technically, those underlings do not even report directly to them.

Pros

Worked with a great senior vice president, and junior project management staff. Great learning opportunities, and job flexibility (depends on your project executive), benefit are okay.

Cons

No backlog, no clear career progression, nepotism (lots of this, everyone is related to or is a "friend" of the executive vp...), hired a lot of field staff that have little to no experience (again nepotism, many of them are friends or relatives of someone higher up on the food chain).
