Pros

The health benefits were okay.

Cons

Picture a place where your input is valued, you are talked to with respect, and your humanity is respected. Where teamwork is emphasized, transparency is given, and worker autonomy is understood. A place where racism isn't tolerated, and where you aren't working to prove you are worthy of the job you were literally hired for. You have pictured the polar opposite of working for AKRF. From the first day working there, the training was lax if any, and I was asked to work with someone who controlled through micromanagement. The company was perpetually behind the ball, and angry about it, though of course it was never the fault of upper management, only the folks who ALL of the labor they decided to take on and then abandon fell on. Upper management relied on laborers and other staff to sacrifice their lives to this company, where the only thing they'd have to show for it would be extra hours of overtime and depleted mental health. Teamwork didn't exist, because every issue was a free-for-all to find the person to blame for what was going wrong and punish them overtly and/or passive aggressively, instead of coming together, understanding that people are human, and working to rectify any situation. This company lives in fear of the people they have contracts with, and it's partially because transparency with clients from the outset would require them to reckon with the fact that at its' core, this company is mediocre at best, thrown together with smoke and mirrors. The work they do is predicated on multitudes of people deciding that remaining paid is more important than taking care of themselves, and being a well rounded person. There is so much talent in the organization, even in the small number of people that I worked with, that is continuously overlooked or underrecognized because of the profit motive. I read the other Glassdoor reviews before accepting a job here, and said "well, maybe it won't be so bad." I was wrong. It will be worse than you could ever imagine. Do not let these people waste one iota of your life, energy, or talent. Trust me when I say you can do better. Reconsider working here. Even interns.

Pros

AKRF usually pays the most in NYC and they are well known. We get really big jobs and city contracts. Its tough to jump ship if you aren't offered a better title somewhere else.

Cons

The entire industry is booming. There is more work than ever before, but that doesn't excuse how they treat employees here. If you aren't favorited you won't gain the skills that are truly valuable to growing your career. Most of the money comes from mundane field work at job sites. If you can't obtain office skills you will be stuck in the field for your entire time with AKRF. Some of my coworkers have been here over 10 years and are still waiting for the office time they are promised. Essentially you slave away and beat yourself up day in and day out or are one of the few that are chosen for promotion and management. Its best to be here for a short time if you're starting your career. If you come aboard at management level its much better, but work life balance is terrible all around. In all honesty the culture here is just terrible. Its all about profits now and field workers are paying the price.
