Pros

-Young environment good for those just starting out or those who are new in town to meet new people. -Fast promotions for the most part, but only in fund accounting, which is non transferable outside of fund accounting. So fast that one guy got hired as a senior, then promoted to supervisor before he even started b/c there is so much turn around it is silly. This is problematic however b/c it leads to bad supervisors with lack of on the job training and this gets passed around.

Cons

-Turn over of employees is super high (avg experience is 9 months as a fund accountant). Therefore after 9 months you are basically the best of the best if you did anything right. -Cliques are like high school here -If you don't like to drink or are less about hanging out after work hours, this place is not right for you -You never know if you are doing good or bad. The general rule was, if you hear nothing, then you are doing okay. Sadly though even if you make mistakes, no one will tell you really so you will likely make them again. - What others have said about being on a more complex fund team and not getting lunch is very true. Its a crap shoot on which team you'll be on and how you will like your life. - Fund accounting at Alps is considered sub entry. So if you apply else where you start again at entry level. Yes sad isn't it? This includes moving into other dept at Alps, you compete with other entry level candidates even though you may have 2 or 3 years experience and were a senior accountant. -Pay is super super low. Other benefits are good.

Pros

Great company to work for when coming out of college and looking for an entry-level job/get foot in the door. Fellow employees are welcoming and always willing to assist when someone has questions.

Cons

New employees are not trained properly. Most new employees train themselves by trial and error since supervisors are not available and they do not pair them with another employee to train them. New employees should not have to train other new employees. Employees should be compensated for the hard work they do. The pay is very low for all the work that goes into the job. The pay raises are not nearly enough to keep up with inflation and rising housing costs.

Pros

The place has a good work-life balance. You are paid hourly and can't work more than 40 hours a week unless there are special circumstances. The job would be really easy if the software weren't incredibly difficult to use. The job doesn't require a lot of thinking. If you a big drinker, the first Friday I was there they actually gave us beers to drink while working.

Cons

The software is horrible. Everybody is super young and trying to find people to date and different ways to get drunk. It isn't really accounting. Most of what you do is finding numbers on different documents and highlighting them on the computer. Its located in a pretty bad part of town. If anything, it is basic finance. There isn't really anywhere to move up to from Fund Accounting except supervisor. If you have goals of doing something else, I recommend starting somewhere else.
