I had one assignment with AMS. I found them to be thoroughly unethical and predatory. If you work for them, understand that they will make a LOT of money from your labor and provide nothing in return. If you care at all about the non-profit organizations that AMS serves, understand that their only mission is to exploit those nonprofits while paying you as little as possible and providing no service to you or the nonprofit. They have no conscience and absolutely no sense of human decency. Also know that within the non-profit community, AMS has a terrible reputation. I've heard two separate people, completely independently, describe the head of their non-profit division as "smarmy". Literally- two separate people used that word to describe him.

There are no Pros to working at AMS.

Cons

Do not leave a position/job to work at AMS. Consultants are treated as temps and long term engagements are not guaranteed. If someone is qualified to work at AMS, that person would be better off working for themselves as the compensation and benefits are terrible and the management only cares about profits. They oversell projects without fully understanding the functions needed at each client.

Pros

Company finds clients for consultants, pays consultants weekly, and is responsible for collecting fees. You might find wider range of clients than working independently.

Cons

No office space or time for consultants so it's hard to get to know or network with colleagues, No professional development. No evaluations. Suggestions from consultants are neither encouraged nor welcomed. Business development managers oversell and underbid to get new contracts, then provide minimal and misleading information to consultants assigned to the client. When consultants cannot deliver on the unrealistic promises, managers berate and bully them to reduce hours spent on the project. Managers less than honest with both clients and consultants.
