Toxic culture, reporting bullying and zero-hours contract caused me to experience retailiation and fail probation
Pros
1. You can watch the musicals and plays for free 2. Flexible hours with long breaks in-between shifts 3. You can cover shifts at other theatres once full trained 4. Uniform is reimbursed upto a certain amount
Cons
1. Toxic work culture if you're different - Autistic/ADHD. I experienced bullying by my younger co-workers who were in their early 20's. Supervisors had little to no experience working with ASD individuals. 2. Zero-hours contract (you might not work for 2 weeks). I once went 3 weeks with only 1 shift, then when it comes to your probation meeting, they'll say you didn't make enough progress and use that as a reason to fail your probation. You can't make the required progress if you're only getting 1-2 shifts a week. 3. Very hot during the summer and AC is only on during intervals. 4. Probation lasts 6 months, which is quite uncommon for min-wage jobs. 5. I wasn't given bar training which prevented me from getting more shifts. The lack of shifts which is what caused me to fail probation and felt in hindsight like sabotage from my most senior DM. 6. Racist jokes went unchecked and a deputy manager defended staff member making jokes to new recruits during the induction training as saying they're just joking and do not mean any offense. After I reported the staff member in question, they got fired months later.
