Toxic Culture

Pros

A lot of change has happened at ATR International in the last year and you cannot blame most of the employees for the direction the company is going.

Cons

Good managers don't just leave companies with a good culture. If the culture is as good as they say it is, you wonder why the CIO, VP of Sales and HR Business Partner left the company right after the current CEO took over for her Dad a year ago. Then the VP of Recruiting left more recently. Some of them were with the company for over 20 years. You can see what the culture is like at ATR International if you read other Glassdoor reviews. ATR International ownership does not tolerate constructive criticism and this is obvious when you read the co-founder's responses to the negative reviews on here. It is bad enough that they always ask employees to leave positive reviews after negative reviews have been made. Then they will also give contractors $5 Starbucks gift cards to leave positive reviews on Glassdoor.

Please stop miss-characterizing our company. Even at the executive levels people leave companies for better career opportunities. The CIO left the company months before the new CEO took helm of ATR. The VP of Sales took on a COO position at another company and the VP of recruiting has taken an executive position at a publicly traded enterprise. Despite the fact that we don't want to loose them we are proud that our employees are valued by others. Your advice to management is ill founded as most of us have passion for hobbies and support their local sports teams. Being recognized by some of the most prestigious professional organizations is an honorable and not ill-mannered.

Major Issues

Pros

It’s a good place to learn the basics of recruiting but you’ll want to continue your recruiting career somewhere else.

Cons

The majority of the management team that made this company great have left within the last few years. Most of them were with the company for more than 15 years but obviously saw the writing on the wall. Things are not good and people are leaving. ATR only values you if you “tow the line”. The mindset is that ATR ownership is never at fault and those leaving the company for another opportunity are making a big mistake. Management rarely even says “goodbye” to those leaving. I’ve seen long time employees walk out the door on their last day and the CEO just sits in her office acting like nothing is happening. No simple “thank you”. Nothing. Its heartbreaking to see. To make things worse, leadership often mocks and ridicules those who have left for a better opportunity. I’ve heard it with my own ears and its borderline disturbing. Proceed with caution if you are thinking about working here. Also, no laptops, only desktop computers? What Bay Area company still does this? It seems like they’ve been doing business the same way for 30 years. No real innovation. And none of their clients are any of the big Silicon Valley tech companies, which should tell you all you need to know. Working from home is not really an option unless you get permission. Most Bay Area companies trust their employees to get their job done and don’t care where you work. Not here. It’s the difference between treating your employees like adults versus treating them like children.

Pros

-Decent Medical, Dental and Vision Benefits -Great Co-Workers - Discounted Gym Membership

Cons

-Horrible communication between upper management and employees. They do not tell you when someone on the team leaves and you find out by getting their work reassigned to you. - Absolutely no work from home option (SERIOUSLY?) -The company is very old fashioned (no laptops, just desktops that you have to drive to work to access - A JOKE) - If you are hourly (which most employees are, you NEVER get to leave early) unless it's approved by the manager. - Expected to work 8-5 everyday if not later. - No transparency between upper management - they do not address issues that are going on within the company. - It will take you FOREVER to reach the Technical Recruiter stage and actually start making commission (reasons why ATR has such a high turnover rate). - Pay does not compensate for the work that you put in. -Clients they recruit for are garbage: super low pay rate, short contract, unresponsive hiring managers which make it a challenge to obtain quota and hires.

Your feedback is appreciated. As a leader in the staffing industry, ATR understands that face-to-face collaboration is one of the keys to success in this sector. However, we support work-life integration and do in fact allow employees to occasionally work from home. Similarly, our formal business hours are 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Again, in the spirit of work-life integration, we do allow employees to adjust their working hours in order to accomplish their daily goals. When it comes to career growth, we support our employees by being completely up front in interviews about how to reach the Technical Recruiter role. The staffing industry is not an easy one and it never has been. Employee success and promotions are in direct correlation to work habits and determination. Finally, our client base contradicts your description. ATR works with Fortune 500 companies and our job is to fulfill the positions sent to us by them regardless of how difficult they are. If our recruiters were never successful with our clients, then we would not be partners with those prominent companies for close to 20 years.
