Pros

Two microwaves in the kitchen.

Cons

Horrifically high attrition rate among the staff - by my calculation around 50% of staff that worked there at some point in 2019 are no longer there, and it is higher if you exclude family and friends of the owner. They hired 8 staff in 2019 by my calculation, 1 family member still there, 1 friend of the owner still there, only one of the other 6 remains. If you are related to the owner Helen or a friend of hers before you join you have a bright future there, if not then reconsider now. The most toxic workplace atmosphere I have experienced - people are pleasant to your face but will snip about you and others as soon as they are out of the office. The family members seem to be most guilty and undermine new staff members almost from day one. Their hiring strategy seems to be to hire people to be a "magic bullet" to fix all the ills of the company, then get rid of people as soon as they fail to overcome the structural issues within the company. There is a lack of customer focus - the sales and pre-sales staff rarely visit customers, or even call them as far as I can tell and new customers are as rare as unicorns. The owner has a particular view of the type of customer she wants, even though the company is ill equipped to deliver what these companies need. For an IT company there are shockingly few technical staff. The focus within the company is heavily on appearance. The would much rather superficially appear to be professional than actually take the steps to be a fully professional organisation.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review, I am sorry that you didn't have a positive experience working at AVR. To address the points you raise in your review. We did indeed reduce the size of the team in 2019. It was a planned reduction in headcount and as a relatively small company only affected a few individuals . The reduction was managed as sensitively as possible and was through a mixture of redundancy and managing out individuals who were not performing well. It was not as you have implied in your review. The team is now growing again with a number of very successful new recruits brought on board in 2020 and some exciting new roles coming on board in 2021. We strongly disagree with your comments about the workplace atmosphere. If there have been individuals involved in the business who brought with them a level of toxicity in the past they are certainly no longer with the business. We are very proud of the way we look after our customers, they are at the centre of everything we do. Over 50% of the team at AVR are technical and specialists in their areas of technology/ service delivery. Our key customers certainly do receive a lot of our attention, as they should. We pride ourselves on the quality, depth and duration of these relationships. Our specialism in Mobile Device Management and Security has enabled us to help many of our customers through the Covid 19 pandemic and has also allowed us to introduce ourselves to many more new businesses that we look forward to working with in the future.

Pros

You can have free Coffee

Cons

Calls themselves a reseller yet actually involves other resellers to do the technical work for the customers seemingly been doing it that way for years, Sales staff dropped like flies others who recently joined sacked to cut costs or resigned horrible very fake atmosphere. The owner decided to come back after 5 years on a desert island who is clueless and pretends to think she has close friendships with everyone when all she does is chase them on Linkedin. The only thing thats kept the company floating is one contract they won few years back, very badly configured and unsecure. A customer can phone in wanting more licences or a renewal they ring a bell like they have won new business and had to do a lot of work it’s Hilarious. Sales are completely non existent to win deals they were losing to a competitor they’d sell it at almost cost now thats a great selling technique! 60% family work in this company so don’t be fooled with the reviews written by them if they have anyone coming into the office they do musical chairs into areas to make them look as if they are on the same team so they have decided to move to a really small office. I spoke a few times two non family members in that office who seemed way to clever to even be there so leave you can do a lot better! Seriously Avoid at all costs if you value your sanity and health!

I'm sorry to hear that you did not have a positive experience whilst working at AVR, it sounds like our small, family friendly, supportive team environment was not for you. The sales team celebrate every sale, big or small, be it new business or renewal. That’s important to us. The bell was the idea of the sales team themselves, it’s fun and helps the whole business celebrate their achievements. We are a reseller, and on occasion when a technical requirement is outside of our own technical expertise (of which we have a considerable amount) we use a partner to complete that technical work. This ensures the best service for our customer and is not an unusual approach to take in this industry. I'm afraid I'm really at a loss as to how to respond to your comment about our MD and owner of the business. She returned from maternity leave after 2 years not a 'desert island after 5'. 'Desert Island' is certainly an interesting way of describing maternity leave. The business is now 18 years old with a high customer retention rate as they are well looked after and AVR as a business is profitable and growing . I strongly disagree with what you imply within your review it's simply not the case.

Pros

Very relaxed (this is also a con)

Cons

Too relaxed, no motivation in the team. It’s also very clicky, certain individuals get treated very differently. Commission OTE is very unrealistic as the targets are not achievable. There is no atmosphere, so if you’re looking for a place that will keep you motivated then this is not the place. Instead they create awkward games between the team to try and make a fun and competitive atmosphere which actually just feels very forced.

I'm really sorry that you felt this way about your time with us, I don't think we've ever had negative feedback before on the team spirit and ethos of AVR. The strength of our team and how we work together and support each other is something we're immensely proud of. I'm disappointed that you didn't feel able to share how you were feeling with us before you left. Had you given us the opportunity to have that conversation with you I feel sure we could have worked through the issues that were making you unhappy. I would argue that targets and commission OTE is realistic. We frequently benchmark ourselves against competitors and targets are set by what we feel the individual Account Manager is capable of. As a new member of the team your target would have been small to start with and would have gradually risen each quarter to a level in line with your peers. The sales incentives and games are the ideas of the Account Managers themselves in many cases; activities chosen by the team to reward their achievements. I'm sorry that they weren't activities that appealed to you. As regards training we have had two external providers of sales training come in and work with the team in the last year as well as an ongoing programme of vendor presentations and learning sessions. We also run frequent internal knowledge training sessions. Improving our training offering has been a big area of focus in the last year, so again I would have been interested to hear from you what more training you would have liked. Once again I'm sorry that you didn't feel that you had a positive experience whilst employed at AVR. From the comments you've made it sounds like maybe we just weren't a good fit for you. I wish you all the best for the future. Jo Wendland - Talent Manager - AVR International
