Pros
Heartwarming friendships were formed during my time at this firm. Despite the high turnover, many of us still remain as close friends despite leaving for different places. Learnt how to manage things and solve problems that were both related and unrelated to audit work. Grew stronger as a person after tackling the problems met while working at this firm and while leaving the firm.
Cons
Partners of the firm tend to let their emotions and temper get the better of them. Their judgements are also easily clouded and influenced. More often than not, this leads to many misunderstandings between management and staff. Partners tend to emphasise on the importance of efficiency and work-life balance. However, they do not practice what they preach. Examples of inefficiency includes long discussions with the partners with no decisive conclusion. These discussion usually ends with personal attacks to employees that are usually untrue or with the partners quarreling with each other. Time is wasted while waiting for the partners to deal with disagreements with each other. Long hours are part and parcel of being in the audit line. However, many late working hours arises due to the partners' inefficiency in managing their time. Work submitted on time to partners are usually only returned to the employees close to the deadlines of the job with the partners citing 'packed schedules' as an excuse. Certain management also tend to shift their responsibilities to the employees of the firm. Examples includes chasing of invoice payment, coaching of new staff, researching on behalf and many other management roles and duties. In order to work at this firm, you have to be emotionally prepared to be criticised, picked on, shouted at and maligned. Standing up for yourself and your co-workers may be energy and emotionally draining.
