Pros

- Some really smart people - It's a startup, there is a lot that can be learned if you're proactive and intentional

Cons

- Toxic work environment - Lack of team culture - A lot expected from the staff, for little reward/recognition - Non-existent or grossly delayed pay reviews - About 8 people left the company Q4 2020 - Q1 2021; that's 30% of the workforce!

Pros

- A lot of learning opportunities: Acre's stack has relatively new technologies and you're given the space to explore & practice them. - Some really smart people in the management team trying to do the best they can under the circumstances (VP Eng/Innovation/Design/BizDev/CS/...)

Cons

This company is an engineering train-wreck waiting to happen: - The architecture is a sprawling mess - the technology choices made are inconsistent, leading to a terrible developer experience and a buggy product. - As an individual contributor, you have zero decision-making power. Everything is tightly controlled by the CTO who doesn't listen to his engineers. - You often have to work seriously long hours with little-to-no recognition - There is little product direction - you often don't know what you're building, why you're building it or if anyone will really care about it / use it (when I left the company, it didn't have any paying clients)

Pros

• Extremely good work life balance. • Daily workload is very low and the work is easy (could also be a con). • A lot of potential for this type of software within the industry, if they can get it the execution right. • Most software developers are friendly and listen to QA feedback.

Cons

• There is a big hierarchy even with less than 30 employees, as a QA you are at the bottom of the pile and are treated with no respect. • Management are nasty and passive aggressive. • If you find any large bugs you have to be prepared for a big backlash and a lot of unpleasant comments directed your way from certain members of staff as they can’t admit that they have made a mistake. • I would try to to come up with improvements or ideas but this is met with contempt from management. I was told by certain members staff that my opinions and suggestions are not valid due to my job title as QA and that I was too stupid to make suggestions. • There is a lack of mortgage broker experience within this company driven by arrogance that they are cleverer than their customers, therefore the product design is mediocre at best, and at worst outrageously bad. • Testing is extremely manual which makes life very boring. There is no ability to challenge yourself or grow within this role. • There is little support within the team, you are intentionally not invited to team meetings. • There is a culture of pretending to be busier than you are within Product Team.
