Pros

- can wear casual clothes most days - Teams are small (no more than 10 people in each team) so you quickly get to know everyone - Fancy ‘WeWork’ office in London for the marketing team (everyone else based in either Saffron Walden or leamington spa) - They used to do a free activity per year for each employee but that may have stopped now. - Most departments (aside from the call centre) can manage their own workloads.

Cons

- strict no working from home policy. Full hours at the office 5 days a week, no flexible working or early finishes. - No HR team. If you have an issue you will need to speak directly to your manager (in some cases your manager is the CEO…) - Lower than average pay - High turnover of staff - Blame shifting between some departments and some management (“not my problem” mentality) - Directors are extremely involved with most projects (I guess this could be seen as a positive), however it can be off putting if you want to try something new or ask questions as there is no buffer between you and the director. - Leaving on time is frowned upon if you’re not junior.

Activity Superstore Response

This review is part truth and part fiction and so I wanted to create some balance for people who don't know Activity Superstore. Firstly, it is true that we have a strict 5 days per week in the office policy. Our experience of homeworking during the pandemic was that it stifled creativity and communication and obstructed learning. It was also hated by a number of our team and so we wanted everyone back together in a shared environment where we can learn from the conversations going around us and add value to other people's problem solving. Home working simply does not suit our business model or conversational style. Secondly, it is true that many people report directly into a Director which most people like because decision-making is fast and the usual office politics don't really exist. It does mean that "fake-it-to-make-it" doesn't work here. If you are seeking somewhere to hide and make a wage then this is not the place for you! It is also true that our Digital Marketing team works in a "fancy" WeWork office and we do provide fruit and snacks for our teams. Is that a bad thing? It is also true that we do not have an HR Manager - we have an HR company, Citation, and a number of helplines eg a Mental Health Line, to support people. I'm not sure that's bad either!! It is completely untrue about work hours and flex. Some people start at 8am, some at 9.30am; some shorten lunchtimes to go earlier. Some people leave at 4.15pm, others at 6pm. What we do promise people is that we don't operate a "sweat-shop" environment and the Directors are ALWAYS the last to leave (generally before 6pm every day). Sounds alright to me. We do, however, expect people to positively contribute and we try to offer opportunity. If you want to get on whilst learning a lot, then immediate exposure to the Directors and fast decision-making will appeal to you. If you want to tread water and try to get by with minimal effort, then we would definitely rather not have you as part of our team. The writer of the review that I'm responding to is Anonymous; my name is Shaun Powell and I'm the CEO. I love working here!!

Pros

Convenient, local job Seemed to hire from within so if you work in the call centre for a few months, there are career opportunities in their head office

Cons

Poor training Unethical Huge turnover of staff Supervisors hired for length of service rather than merit - for which there are not enough 'Sickness' with staff rampant due to low morale
