Cons

Emotionally abusive and negligent management, uncomfortable cult-of-personality-culture around CEO/founder, extreme disorganization and a complete breakdown of communication.

Thank you for your feedback. I want to personally thank you for posting up, I am also available to talk at any time, as are Employee Resources or your team lead. It's great to hear that the benefits and more are working well. We’ve all worked hard to provide these benefits and will try to include more going forward. Adafruit and the team are committed to creating a transparent and excellent environment for team members. I'm disappointed we haven't met all your expectations but I want to let you know we are here and very motivated to address anything you'd like to work with us on. We very much value and consider all feedback and we encourage everyone to give feedback in our weekly meetings in each department, our weekly all-company meeting, team leads, one-on-ones and check-ins, reviews and open office hours, and at any time with the leads and Employee Resources. This review is our first on Glassdoor. When seeing this review, we thought about what to do and decided we consider this an opportunity to demonstrate the type of employer we are and want to be. Most companies do not reply, but we are not most companies :) How a company responds, if at all, and how a company & team work on both the positive and negative are what matter. I want to address some of the specific concerns and comments you mentioned in an effort to show we are the kind of people and company that values feedback and implements change, and this is a great way to prove it. Please give us an opportunity to do so. For paid time off - we currently offer: New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Day. 5 to 10 vacation/personal days when a team member starts, immediately, depending on position. They also have 5 sick days, immediately, as well. Flexible schedules when working with the team, usually team members can make something work well for everyone. This year we've added 3 paid days off for charity work, we hope to add more. Sometimes it's a challenge to have team members who want part-time or unpredictable schedules if they're pursuing other goals outside the company. We try our best and we're always looking to provide as much flexibility with schedules as possible. Our weekly state of the fruit meeting on Friday is optional; lasts 30 mins @ 5:30pm. We send out notes for everyone who cannot make it. We provide food and beverages to anyone attending the meeting and if someone does attend, it's paid time. The teams value the meeting, we go over the metrics and goals. While it's not required to attend, most find it useful and culturally important to share our successes together on a regular basis. This is where we make decisions together and provide the direction we're all going. Management - we'll always work with a team member, together, to make things work out in a very fair way for everyone. We have a great group of people that will listen to concerns and work with team members on anything that comes up. We consider this a partnership and we will address and fix things if given the chance. If you give us a chance to address things you observe we can promise you we'll take care of things together professionally. During the training process as well as in our handbook we lay out and adhere to company policies which foster a safe and positive workspace for everyone; Adafruit prohibits taking negative action against any employee for reporting a possible deviation from a company discrimination or harassment policy or for cooperating in an investigation. We're very proud of the work the team members do, it's why we send out all company emails about Adafruit in the press, read letters from customers and celebrate the kudos and "hug reports" each week. A lot of times our work, or someone's work gets overlooked. We make a point of thanking each other and celebrating when we're in the news getting the word out. Starting rate - we're very proud we're able to offer a great starting rate. For team members with financial goals, we get them there. Many team members are promoted, receive raises and more as they take on more responsibilities, usually within the first year. As you mentioned, you can make more bartending short-term in NYC. That's certainly possible, it really depends on what your goals are with your career and we're here to help and listen. We believe good communication is an important part of a company’s relationship with its employees. I encourage you to express your feelings and voice your ideas about our operations, and we will likewise make efforts to keep you informed of developments and changes as they occur. I hope this demonstrates we're listening and will continue to work in ways to improve. I'm here if you want to talk and so is the team. Thank you for your work with us, your ongoing contributions, and feedback. It's your Adafruit, let's shape it together in 2016. Thanks, Limor and team

Great mission but riddled with problems

Pros

- Company mission to bring more women into tech is a great cause - Diverse and inclusive workplace with a lot of talented individuals who weren't given many chances before their employment at Adafruit.

Cons

- Problematic structure at the top of the company leads to retaliatory management practices and an utter inability to address problems. - The way the company handles feedback is unprofessional and exasperates issues rather than addresses them. This comes from the top and seems rooted in double standards that go against the company’s stated mission. - Pay is embarrassingly low for most roles.
