Pros

Very easy to get a job here, they will accept anyone really, as long as you're willing to work for very little compensation

Cons

- Very low compensation/pay and limited benefits - Zero growth opportunities - HR is passive-aggressive and make it clear that your thoughts and opinion don't matter - CEO will talk down to you, if at all acknowledged by him. - You are merely a number/resource that they will take advantage of in every way they can - Asked to come in after hours without pay. Subtly threaten you if you don't i.e. "You don't have to come to these events, but you SHOULD...let me say again, you SHOULD come in". - When you are initially hired, you will be sitting on the "Bench" (waiting for a client) for the first 6 months, wasting your life away Adastra is a classic company where they will promise you the world during the interview process prior to signing the contract, though it won't take long for you to realize everything they promised was a lie. Adastra does not value their employees in any way. They will use you to fill any subpar position they have, regardless of what your skills are or what tools you want to learn or work with. Over the past 3 months (January 2015 - March 2015), over 20 consultants had left the company due to utter lack of respect/value/opportunities, which should be a great example of how Adastra treats it's employees. Unless you absolutely can't find a job anywhere else and are wiling to accept anything, don't waste your time or energy here! You'll be grateful that you avoided Adastra Corporation.

Pros

Intangible gains by working smart people, technically and non-technically. Working alongside solid technical leadership. Connected with mentors which made me value my experience and grow (I’ll get to that later). Overall, I met genuinely nice people working here and would recommend this company if you’re an experienced consultant

Cons

Not invested in innovative operational technology! After leaving, I realized I lacked exposure to innovative and industry leading tools and technologies. Not only are you losing out on gaining experience with relevant technologies, makes the task on hand archaic. No freedom to take apart what was no working and rebuild it. If you’re really ambitious the environment can be suffocating in terms of growth. HQ location was tricky, and not ideal for a tech company looking to attract or retain top talent.

Pros

The lunch time is paid. The company culture isn't too highly formal or rigid from being a rather small company, and the upper management won't put too much pressure / stress on you. This I believe makes Adastra a very good place for a starting consultant right out of college to get that first stepping stone in how to work professionally with others, which big companies I've seen do not do quite as well due to the more pressure put on them right off the bat. They are also willing to pay for & and bring in people from abroad / other places in Canada and house them near Markham as far as I know.

Cons

The lack of a formal structure makes training difficult and without direction. The company often hires consultants without fully confirming a deal with clients. While this is a necessary business move, this can also hurt the consultant that just started if a relationship with a business client goes south since the company can only keep so many junior consultants without clients. This in turn can mean a number of consultants can be left to hang dry in the company headquarters just "training" without a sense of direction as to what to learn or how to learn it. One junior consultant I worked with, for example, was left essentially on his own as to what to learn because the client required specific software that NO ONE in the company knew how to use. This wouldn't be a problem with experienced consultants, however. The instability can therefore mean working with this company can be a very high risk for layoffs, etc without getting a chance to prove yourself. The pay is also very miniscule. A person with similar skills could easily get paid $10K to $20K more than what one would get at Adastra. This makes many, including myself, leave the company after a few.
