Pros

It's great being part of a team (staff on the floor) that supports you and has your back. Nice size hospital.

Cons

1.) Pay for CNAs is very low ($10/hr starting) & raises are very low as well (after 5 yrs I'm making just under 14$/hr) for a job that is truly on the "front line" of caring for the patient. Yes, you can move on up and become a RN with a higher salary but someone still has to do the CNA work and they should be paid a living wage. 2.) Management is disconnected to what's happening on the floor. Over the 5 years I've been working at Porter I have never seen a "manager" actually work as a floor nurse (& CNA), or even walk down the hall to get a sense of what is going on and truly being "in the know" on what can be done to improve working conditions & address employees concerns.

Pros

Majority of coworkers are kind and empathetic towards each other and patients.

Cons

Nursing management and patient advocates facilitate the development of pathological behaviors of patients and family members that makes providing care to patient difficult.

Pros

It was okay the first couple of years, then the verbal abuse, politics, and gossip just started getting worse and worse. The pay and benefits were good, but that doesn't make enduring such treatment worth it by far if it's negatively affecting your mental health.

Cons

I felt that their culture was one of verbal bullying and toxicity. I complained to management several times about how poorly I was being mistreated, and they ignored me, denied that it was happening, or downplayed its severity. Employees that were the worse bullies continued to get promotions despite their mistreatment of others and singling out individuals (and turning others against that individual) if they didn't like them. In fact, the worse bullies would pretend to be your best friend at first, and then turn on you for no reason if it suited them. Although I didn't seek therapy, I believe that this job caused me depression, anxiety, and stress both when I was employed there and several years afterward.
