Pros

Eager and passionate CEO (who unfortunately is entirely absent these days) but his vision and convictions as a leader were really something. The company wants to put people first, but fails to time and time again. Pay is okay. A lot of people that come to work here have similar ways of working and are altogether kind people. They do have 2% automatic raises every year with an additional discretionary 2% dependent on company financial health. Self management is great, assuming everyone on your team contributes, which often is not the case. Generally speaking, the work is pretty easy if you’re halfway competent in your practice area. Wellness days are great and is sadly one of the main reasons people stick around.

Cons

Nepotism and cliques rule Agile 6. Throughout a ton of layoffs this year (largely due to DOGE) none of the employees that worked together at previous jobs or are family members of “leadership” were impacted. Because there are no managers, performance has little to no bearing on your job security or upward mobility. Misleading business practices (like outsourcing tech support to another company owned by one of the founders, who is still on the board, when in house tech support would be so much cheaper) Profit sharing and bonuses are essentially non-existent. The people making decisions are so incredibly removed from the work that is being done, they have no clue what they are doing. Our chief business development officer has never done business development before. Our CTO lives in Mexico and seems to be 90% retired. Our CEO, while being a wonderful human, spend all his time writing books and blog posts and his vision is diminishing. The ESOP just feels like a convenient excuse to not pay out bonuses or other tangible benefits. Everything is just starting to feel like smoke and mirrors. How doesn’t company with other 70+ million in revenue an under 100 employees not have enough money to pay us better and provide more support and incentives? We don’t even have a building to pay for.

Pros

Management really means well and tries to create a positive culture, It's government work. Easy money once the contract is won. The business has momentum because they are in with the right people on the customer side.

Cons

The emphasis on culture is cult-like and sometimes creepy. Using words like "coach' instead of "manager" doesn't change the fact that someone has power over you. Much of the leadership has worked together for many years, even at previous companies. It's a bit inbred. Many recent hires are from the leadership's old company. Combine that with a culture that emphasizes relationships over performance, and it makes being an outsider really difficult.

Pros

Good enough benefits. Having no manager is amazing. Good transparency about the business health. Most of the ICs you'll work with on your project team will be smart, kind, empathetic. Government contract work is some of the most rewarding work available, and agile 6 does much work with VA. It's gratifying to serve our nation's Veterans.

Cons

I joined agile 6 a few years ago and I went all in. I thought this was a place to spend a career. I drank the kool-aid about the people first culture, having others' back ("we've got your 6") and all that. Sadly, I have only experienced the bare minimum of support and I have regressed professionally. When you spend so much of your time on meetings, dealing with quirky stakeholders, problem solving on your own because the company has no recourse...your skills start to suffer. When the business suffered due to the change in presidential administration, agile 6 forced people between contracts to take pay cuts. Do you want to work at a company for several years only to be rewarded with a PAY CUT during a time of high inflation and looming recession?
