Many better agencies in NEO

Pros

Can't think of many. If you're young and looking for experience, this is a good place to put in your 1-2 years before you're burned out and want to move on.

Cons

A very demoralizing environment to work in. I wouldn't normally consider posting such a negative review about an employer, but my experience as an employee was not a positive one. I came to Akhia for what I thought was a great culture, but once I started I realized it was exactly the opposite of the fun, creative, collaborative and "family-like" agency it claimed to be. High employee turnover, even for an agency, and there were layoffs every few months. It seems like they just get rid of the people who don't buy in or aren't one of the cool kids. Management also seemed to be trying to play catch up with the other local agencies who are doing it right. Take any review with a grain of salt, obviously, but there are plenty of former employees who would say the same.

Disappointing

Pros

As other reviews have said, Akhia is a nice career entry point for young pros looking for experience. Decent work-life balance.

Cons

Especially when compared with other agencies in NE Ohio, much lower quality work in a quicker turnaround time. I don't think management is completely honest with employees regarding the agency's long-term health. The constant employee turnover says a lot about the agency's values. Every few months, people are let go until the agency is running so lean (and people are so overwhelmed) that they have to turn around and hire several people. This constant imbalance puts undue stress on employees who worry about job security.

Much to be desired

Pros

There are opportunities to learn about all aspects of marketing communications because the agency is very integrated - you'll have your hands on PR, marketing, creative development.

Cons

Akhia grew very quickly in a short amount of time, and many things (like great culture) were lost along the way. There is a disconnect with management that has resulted in very frustrated employees. A very bottom-heavy company with account service spread thin. There are a few, larger clients who get a lot of the attention - if you're not on those accounts, don't expect to be recognized for those long hours.
