Pros

Nice modern office Gym Some people can be nice

Cons

Not sure where to start… very toxic environment. Upper management really arrogant, always smug make you feel bad if you aren’t performing threaten to get rid of you. Everyone is just a robot there, not a social place feel like you can’t talk to anyone unless it’s about work. If you’re close to management you’re fine, if you’re not better be on your toes. They mass hire people then get rid of you even if you’re performing well, then advertise your role the next day and carry the cycle on. I would avoid this place, they make it sound really amazing on the job spec, promise you the world, but in reality it’s nothing like that. You will be depressed and very stressed there, not worth your time or energy working there especially if it’s your first sales job, as it puts you off from doing it elsewhere ever again. Most of the people who still work there started from day 1, hardly anyone there who’s recent maybe a few. Overall, wouldn’t recommend working there.

Akkar recently parted ways with two employees on grounds of gross misconduct, relating to several incidents of inappropriate behaviour and discriminatory language. Unfortunately these individuals seem to have taken to Glassdoor in retaliation. Maintaining a positive and inclusive work environment is a top priority at Akkar. We take all matters related to employee conduct seriously, and decisions regarding termination are made after careful consideration and thorough investigation. A workplace where all employees feel respected and safe, is a non-negotiable for all. Due to the sensitive nature of these dismissals, there was an expectation of confidentiality from both parties which has not been upheld. Whilst it’s a shame for any employment to end abruptly, Akkar has a zero tolerance policy for discrimination, therefore we encourage these individuals to reflect on the feedback they've created on Glassdoor, and instead consider their conduct during employment. Despite these unfortunate events, we wish both parties the best in their future endeavours.

Pros

There are literally not pros to working there.

Cons

This company operates on blatant favoritism and a deeply ingrained culture of nepotism, creating an insular leadership circle that controls all major decisions. Key management and HR are closely connected on a personal level, leading to biased promotions, preferential treatment, and a complete disregard for fairness. During the hiring process, candidates are sold a false image of the company, only to discover within weeks that support is nonexistent, and leadership lacks the necessary skills to manage teams effectively. Promotions are based on personal relationships rather than leadership ability, leaving employees without guidance or professional development. The work environment is highly unstable, with alarmingly high turnover and sudden waves of terminations that create constant anxiety among staff. Constructive feedback is ignored, and suggestions for improvement are dismissed outright. If you’re looking for a healthy, fair, and professional workplace, there are far better options. This company does not invest in its employees, nor does it foster a culture of stability or respect. Do your research before considering this as a workplace.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. We value the opinions of current and former employees in helping us identify areas we may be able to improve. Concerns about fairness in the workplace and the overall health of Akkar's work environment are considered very seriously. While we acknowledge that not every company is the right fit for everyone, we must ensure that any concerns are addressed with clarity and fairness. Akkar maintains a culture of accountability and a meritocratic environment, where hiring and promotions are based only on performance, results, and alignment with company values. Equal opportunities for career growth and professional development are prioritised for all team members. To maintain standards of fairness and transparency, internal policies and processes are continuously evaluated and refined. As with any growing company, periods of change are inevitable, and ongoing efforts are made to support employees through transparent and proactive communication. Akkar takes pride in the team culture that has been built and remains committed to ensuring that team members feel valued, respected, and supported. Potential candidates are encouraged to engage with current employees and leadership to gain a well-rounded perspective on the experience of being part of the team. For any current or former employees with concerns, direct and constructive conversations are welcomed to address them appropriately.

Pros

From a full transparency point of view, they have great facilities. Some of the people can be nice and they allow you to work closely with senior management. Their foundation is built on motorsport so it is a good MARKET to work if that's your interest.

Cons

The WORST commission structure there is out there. They sell the dream of £70k - £100k OTE but this is not the case, especially in your first year. They cap it at 20% commission and the basics of what you get will be 10%. If you look into any other recruitment business that will show you how shocking these figures are. It is quite sad how they incentivise internally to write up reviews when they are operating still within the business and anyone who doesn't or says their honest opinion will be booted out. If you review the good reviews their always from the same week around April when they realise they need to increase their attraction, quite simply sad. When the words 'family ran business' come into play, usually that is a benefit or at least you would think... The whole structure of the company is horrid and the senior management are all best friends or family/partners. This creates an extremely toxic environment to work within and if one of them doesn't accept you they will play their cards for you to be out of the business ASAP. They create these 'big incentives' that paint the picture that you can go on holiday within the first year/2 years but realistically it's a holiday for family and friends that go YoY. I would recommend avoiding as when the light is shown of other companies it reflects on how poorly they are operated and how their incentives are a real lack for someone who works 45+ hour weeks in an incentivized profession. Each to their own but other companies in and around Brighton has many more opportunities to offer than they do.

Thank you for taking the time to provide your feedback. We value the opinions of current and former employees in helping us identify areas we may be able to improve. We recognise that commission structures and incentives may not meet everyone's expectations, particularly in a results-driven industry such as recruitment. Akkar's commission model is designed to be competitive, while ensuring sustainability for the business and its employees. We are also dedicated to ensuring full transparency throughout the recruitment process, offering a detailed breakdown of on-target earnings (OTE) expectations. The Talent Acquisition Specialist role entails an OTE figure of £40-45k, which we are confident is realistic and attainable based on historic performance data. We aim to offer a wide range of rewards that are designed to recognise and celebrate success. These include a competitive commission structure, holiday incentives, performance bonuses, EMI scheme and other recognition schemes/benefits, which are available to all employees based on their achievements. Akkar takes comments regarding company culture seriously. As a growing business, we strive to foster a friendly, inclusive environment which mirrors the camaraderie and performance of a successful sports team. We understand that this approach may not resonate with everyone, but we value and consider all feedback to help us improve our culture. It’s also important to note that all employee reviews on Glassdoor are voluntary and reflect honest experiences, which we neither solicit nor influence. We’re truly sorry that your experience didn’t reflect the standards we strive to uphold. Your feedback will be shared with senior leadership as part of our commitment to ongoing improvement. Thank you again for sharing your insights and we wish you all the best.
