Pros

some supportive staff, more westernised staff members

Cons

Wages are not brilliant as you can get more from other schools, living allowance isn't enough, education in the school is poor in primary, the CEO, Mannai, is a racist, sexist bully who only knows how to threaten people with prosecution to get any answers. He gives islam a bad name and only cares about money. He fires people for no reason whatsoever. He is nothing but a bully and a tyrant and he will be held accountable on the day of judgement. His bullying ways will not help him then.

Pros

Made some good friends and the kids I had in my class.

Cons

Where do I start? From the horrific accommodation they provided us with. To the recent treatement of some HR colleagues towards teachers, to management, their favouritism and friendships, to how the entire school is run - constant stress, last minute deadline, passive aggressiveness and rude emails, micromanagement, oop and you can say goodbye to freedom and autonomy as a teacher if you decide to work here!! They treat teachers like children, they observe teachers consistently and constantly (unannounced and drop ins), no trust, they pick on every single thing and expect teachers to juggle the entire class who speak very little English (using the UK curriculum) with a PP that must be followed step by step. Planning is ridiculous. Oh and the exams!🤣 they treat teachers like ant workers. The whole set up of it is strange and you’ll be kept behind extra to complete marking. If you want to destroy your mental health, lose that spark as a teacher and get anxiety then go ahead with this place. The positive reviews are not accurate. There is an SLT member that is an extreme bully, I hope to never meet someone like that again. My advice is, look elsewhere, there are places that will treasure you, appreciate you and support you. Have faith. Al Jazeera Academy isn’t the one.

Pros

You could meet some, amazing people who you'd form life long bond with.

Cons

A school with one of the highest staff turn over in Qatar. Teachers are not valued. Management don't care about students either. Some classed were without a science teacher for a full academic year, about 4 different science teachers were recruited at different times, all of them resigned within periods ranging from 2 weeks to 3 months. The science lessons for the affected classes were covered by other teachers including English teachers, No teacher took ownership of the classes. Leadership dictates to staff as if they are slaves. We were forced to install an app on our PERSONAL phones and scan it each time we entered a class for a lesson or pastoral. When that didn't work, they changed it to their computers . If you don't scan it, they deduct from your salary. They'd still deduct anyway if you scan it under the pretext that you arrived late, some classes are floors apart. Hardly any support to manage students behaviour. Hardly any staff development programs. When the government gives a time for all schools to be closed, they ta'allum implements it for students but nakes sure staff stay behind. Inadequate holidays for staff compared to other schools. If a parent complains about a teacher, they could be terminated and given less than a week to leave Qatar. HR could be very unhelpful and infact make your stay uncomfortable. When you decide to leave, they try to make it hard for other schools to recruit you by either refusing to cancel your work permit attached to them or give a bad reference. Beware of all positive reviews, they are probably paid for or from SLT that have been compelled by the executives to try redeem their social media image. On FB, nearly all comments about Ta'allum or Aljazeera academy have been deleted from the group "empowering expat teachers " looks very fishy. They'd rather spend money trying to buy a good image than actually assuming a good image.
