Pros

-Good Insurance -If you know your job well, you will have no issue with performing the work. -If you fall into a clique your enjoyment of the atmosphere is a definite. -Since a good majority of the people working there are clinically obese, the county insurance pays for gastric bypass. While I was employed, 911 had almost 15 dispatchers who had had the procedure done. I know more people had it done since I left.

Cons

This department is like any other Gov. Position. Who you know is a determining factor of your success. This position is a union position, so there are no chances of wage increase based on performance only across the board cost of living wage. You will be mandated constantly and will see few weekends or holidays as those time off requests are completed through seniority shift picks. Everyone in the center with you will know your personal life as management does nothing to stop harassment, and will divulge your personal medical info to others and the union representatives will discuss any talks or reprimanding with anyone who will listen. The center is like a big Kindergarten Class. Very few Upper management personnel have more than a GED, which seems to play into why management as well as the company have so many suits in litigation presently. The place is a pig stye. The bathroom were constantly filthy, the kitchen was a disgusting cesspool of rotten food in the refrigerator, and microwaves that never were clean. Vommitt laid on the steps of the inside stairwells for over a week before it was finally cleaned up... Oh yeah.... The bedbugs... Can't forget about the bedbugs...

Pros

The best part about the job is the ability to help the community while receiving decent pay and health benefits. Other benefits are offered on the HR page and you would be foolish not to take advantage!

Cons

The problem with working in the county is that management, for the most part, are politically appointed and have little to no experience with handling the job. There are good managers who belong in their position, but are few and far between.

Pros

1) Healthcare benefits. 2) I like my chair. 3) Good to work at for a year or less to get some experience. Do not stay longer than five years or they will suck you in until you retire.

Cons

Oh, where to begin??? 1) Management/supervisors are like the mean girls from the movie Mean Girls, even if they’re men. 2) Management/supervisors are frequently in their position because they know someone who knows someone. No one that I’ve ever known was there because they worked hard to get there. One was a temp for a few months, then was suddenly a manager. That person had zero management experience and it showed in all that they did. Overbearing micromanaging, screaming at people, and acting like a total loon. Of course they were promoted. 3) Remember high school and how you graduated? Even if you didn’t graduate, you aren’t in high school anymore. Thse people in management act every day as if they did not leave high school. They love their cliques. 4) If you’re not in a clique of theirs, you don’t exist (except for when they deem you as being in trouble). I was walking side by side with a fellow employee one day and a manager walking by us said “Hi, Amanda” to that woman walking next to me but not me. 6) There is no room for advancement unless you’re in their clique.
