Pros

Ability to manage your own time, lots of travel so you're not always stuck in the office. There are some people here with big hearts doing their best to do their jobs and that genuinely care a lot about their clients (those tend to burn out/have to go on stress leave though)

Cons

Staff are extremely overworked and underpaid for the work they do, often exposed to traumatic situations. Staff are forced to clean clients' apartments after they move even when they are literally biologically hazardous for no additional pay. You can't even imagine, you would gag if I described it. I once saw another caseworker literally throw up while cleaning a place. Managers act super nice at first but they are so toxic, micromanagers that want you to do everything perfectly under impossible conditions where every day is another crisis with not enough staff to respond to it especially because many have to go on stress leave. Many managers and caseworkers that have been there a long time bitterly belittle and laugh at their clients behind their back, sometimes gossip about other caseworkers as well. Discouragement from participating in union activities. Also FYI this organization is very Christian so if you're not religious don't talk about it.

Pros

The work is meaningful, you’re in the thick of it right away and get to have good hands on experience

Cons

Zero training - except for 3 days and after you are expected to give needles to people etc. Toxic - every employee is sick of the place and complains and talks down about it - most are on their way out Not transparent - nothing is transparent , from the pay , to communicating with program managers. Client/worker relationships - most people treat the clients like garbage. Barely speak to them, make fun of them infront of their faces and behind their backs, don’t give them simple things like can openers when they are in the drawer - they just say “sorry we don’t have any” - senior staff are so negative to be around because they’ve seen so much death, bio hazards etc. Laws - don’t get me started on the amount of food safety laws that are broken, employment laws - weirdness.
