Pros

Some nice people. The web side of the house does great work.

Cons

The gentleman who runs the managed services side of the organization has the management skills of a common house plant. There are techs that work 20 hours a week and get paid full time, and techs that work 50 hours a week and get paid essentially the same. Big morale problem. When he's not sneaking down the back stairs to leave early, he works from Starbucks. Nice job if you can get it. Not great if you report to him.

American Technology Services Response

This is such a personal attack, I feel I need to respond, especially coming from someone who has worked for us for a long time. It is very disheartening to me personally, but also probably not a constructive way to help us respond to the specific problems you see. It also tells me that you may not be aware of what is really happening in our company, which I will take as a problem I need to address, too. I would welcome the chance to talk about why I strongly prefer our staff should be with clients instead of sitting in the office, and how our flexible work policy allows you to work from Starbucks if needed in order to get to a client meeting in time or pick up your kid from school in time. You should know our policy is "open door" and I invite you to come and ask me what I'm working on and where the company is going. Seriously, please confront us with your ideas and concerns face to face. Sure we have problems, but we want you to be part of the solution. - Jeff

Move on!

Pros

This is a great place to gain experience, learn new skills and get technical certifications.

Cons

As others have said, move on, don’t stay here forever. The company is just too small to promote and they don't have career paths. They make promises annually that they are unable to deliver on (if you work on A this year, you will get promoted to B). To them, promoting someone is adding Sr. to their title with no compensation increase. I've been a victim of this for two years now. There have been a few instances where my mid-year was skipped over. I almost missed my end of year bonus when it showed up in my bank account this past December. It was such a small amount and no one even mentioned it to me. The 401k match is a joke. You work on small teams and this allows you to really get to know your colleagues very well, this can be good/bad, in my experience, my co-workers have been great, management needs some serious training.

Pros

This company is located at the heart of Virginia and Close to metro. Small company with high visibility. Some manager are good, but not all. Free Soda and Coffee.

Cons

Management is not very understanding. Very rude managers and staff. They want you to be billable, or else you are fired the next day. They are stingy in most of the payment they make you. They don't pay mileage if you work at a client place more than certain no of days. They hire workers who are highly skilled with less salary. (not sure how they manage to do this)
