Pros

Great offices and facilities Creative environment which rewards those who act with initiative.

Cons

- No strategy behind business decisions. Big choices are made at the whims of the two founders with little to no business acumen behind them. - Nepotism with promotions and appointments of new staff positions. - Do not move here if you are an English speaker; Ankama has little regard for its international communities and customers, focusing only on French customers. - Departments do not work well together, lots of political backstabbing and undermining. - Lack of skilled and experienced management and staff. - Poor pay. - Lack of innovation, seeking only to replicate the success of their popular MMO, Dofus. - Other projects are kept around (such as Wakfu) purely for the sake of trying to get customers to spend money on the title. No real passion or development happening for these titles. The Community Management department: Avoid this company if you wish to be a Community Manager, the department underwent many changes in 2016: - Current team manager has zero experience in marketing, customer experience or community management. - Current team manager is known to steal ideas and claim credit for those ideas to maintain their position. - Current manager has no knowledge of appropriate KPIs and objectives due to lack of experience. - Current manager has little regard for welfare of their team, both freelance and internal. Lots of extra hours are made with no credit or thanks. - The role of Community Manager is 60% translation, 30% damage control and 10% working on projects and communication/event plans that will never be implemented. - Community management and customer service departments disregarded, as a whole, by development teams and management. - Community Manager, especially international ones, are given little to no information by the development teams.

Pros

-Some very passionate teams -One of the top gaming companies in France -The company will give lots of juniors an opportunity

Cons

-Middle management doesn't last, and should know better than to question the way things are done - or else... -The company was extremely profitable at some point, when it focused on its core business - making online games. As soon as it branched out into animation, comics, magazines and other activities, the financial outlook changed completely. -Marketing Department is despised by the company's CEO, since the beginning - I would discourage any marketing person from applying there. You will be told that your salary is your marketing budget. -Labour law has been a contentious point between maaaaaaaaany employees and the company over the years. Seems misunderstandings on the matter are frequent.

Pros

Creative environment Nice HQ office, and OK international offices Passion for their games and universes

Cons

Lack of understanding of international markets (North America, latam and APAC). Most marketing and communications efforts are completely euro centric. HQ does not strive to support and facilitate international teams, they act like "bouncers" and "policemen" to "control" and effectively block. When I was there several talented highly skilled professionals came onboard to run Ankama's international operations around different continents... most were driven away by HQ middle management as some folks became territorial and undermined, blocked and were un-supportive. This led to the closing offices and massive layoffs. I left as soon as I could. A lot political power struggles.
