Pros

The employees at Anvil are amazing. During my time spent at Anvil I felt honored to call them my peers and in my career to date I have never met a smarter, more reliable group of people. If you are looking for a place to get hands on experience with clients, this is a good place to start I just wouldn't recommend staying for more than a year.

Cons

Anvil typically hires younger employees that are more malleable. The work environment is dramatic, management is controlling and turnover is high. Management also strongly suggests the team posts positive reviews in order to manage the agency's online reputation. In my experience, some employees feared quitting Anvil for fear of public slander, which is not entirely unfounded. There were significant discrepancies in compensation among employees with equal experience and success in their roles. If you asked for a raise or promotion you were branded as greedy, yet if you did not you were not paid as well as your more assertive counterparts so a bit of a 'catch 22'. Overall major agency decisions were made with knee-jerk reactions and lacked in strategic oversight and moral leadership.

We value the input of our employees and we provide ample opportunities for feedback, including monthly 1-on-1 meetings with management and anonymous feedback via weekly TinyPULSE surveys. We've made numerous changes in the organization and continue to do so to make Anvil a better place to work.

Pros

Everyone passes the buck so I guess that could be a pro...

Cons

Everyone passes the buck. My problem is now your problem. Because my idea failed everyone needs to fix it.

Pros

The people and the perks. Like any high pressure environment, you bond with the people you work with each day, and generally they really are great. Just don't get too attached to them because they'll be gone before you know it.

Cons

After a while, the novelty of working at an ad agency wears off, and what's underneath isn't pretty. The perks can no longer cover up the unhealthy environment, created from the top. It's impossible to leave this place on good terms and it's taken extremely personally. Upper management is almost cultish, and internal employees are "sold" on Anvil just as much as prospective clients. Ex-employees are constantly bad mouthed to current employees. Also, like another poster mentioned, internal employees are coerced to write reviews on here. And notice that most of the positive reviews are written by people who have been employed for a short time. It's a great place to learn the ropes, but after a year or two, it's time to move on.

In regards to compensation, we pay above market, offering 15 days of PTO to start, and have refined our spot bonus program to recognize exceptional work. We've also realigned roles and associated compensation through the merger process in order to give everyone a more defined career path and comfort with assigned roles.
