--Not everything listed here is a con; putting most information here to avoid making it look like this company has a lot of pros.==
Newly installed dash cameras with driver facing camera. Management says inside camera is not being used, and we can cover it with tape. The camera does send video, and we can cover it with tape, until management decides we can't. Many runs deliveries do not have enough time calculated to make delivery times, requiring having to constantly update dispatch over the phone while trying to hurry and make deliveries.
Management also does not allow drivers to use split break on log book, even though it is perfectly legal. Company uses JJ Keller software for logs and camera system. it is unreliable and gives erroneous times when using split break, hence the desire to not do split break. It will randomly crash, while showing a screen that looks like it is working. You will sometimes be required to restart e-log software, re-enter load and trailer, and go back and edit your log to show what you did after the app locked up. From what I understand, they used to have Peoplenet; I guess JJ Keller is cheaper. Also, often the truck will put you on the drive line, even after only moving a couple of feet. Sometimes is won't put you on drive line when moving above 5mph and down the street some. Just random. Substandard software.
Every minor logbook violation will likely get you a phone call so you can explain yourself.
This company delivers fiberglass showers, tubs, etc.; You are required to fill your truck with fuel at the factory, where there is on site fuel. Company does not reimburse for paid showers at truck stops, so fueling on the road is only way to get free showers; they want you to top off tanks every time you go into yard, but won't reimburse showers. They do reimburse parking, though.
Freight is hand unload, which is not a con, just an fyi. Some customers are extremely rude, and will waste as much of your time as they can. Much of our freight goes out in less than perfect condition, requiring customer to inspect every unit closely. They they want you to fill out warranty paperwork for them.
The mileage pay rate is very low by today's standards (49.5 cpm starting, up to 53 cpm after 10 years); It is partially made up for with perdiem. You get paid an hourly rate (21.59 up to 22.26 per hour) for on duty time. No Per Stop pay. You will spend usually 5 nights a week sleeping in the truck. if you get back early enough to go home for the night, you will lose a large percentage of perdiem. Safety bonus is $.01 (one cent per mile). it seems that holiday pay is not added to minimum pay rate, but is paid by taking away a day's worth of minimum pay, then adding in the lesser holiday pay.
Job description on this site says 2 weeks paid vacation after 60 days. The H.R. papers I received say 90 days. You don't get any of the benefits, like vaca, personal time, sick time, medical insurance, etc., until after a 90 probation period.
There are quite a few city deliveries, and many are not. Some go to job sites, and first deliveries tend to be usually 7 am. Sometimes 8am, occasionally 6am. You will be expected to leave out Sunday afternoon to go to first delivery and spend the night for the next morning. Sometimes you get back early friday, sometimes late friday, occasionally saturday. Sometimes you don't have to go out until Monday evening. Kind of random.
You will need to provide your own truck gps, or truck gps app. The tablets they have do not have truck navigation software. I don't think they reimburse if you buy your own.
Loads are not computer dispatched. The software seems to be there, but isn't used. You have to write mileages, stops, fuel, etc on load sheets. You are required to certify your log book software several time a day, as well as inputting the load and trailer numbers.
Many people have quit/retired lately; not sure what to make of that. The parent company, ABG, American Bath Group had controlling interest bought by an investment company called Centerbridge Partners in 2020. They donated to Pete Buttigieg for President last time around. They are a private investment firm that specializes in leveraged buyouts and distressed securities (Centerbridge Partners Wikipedia reference).
(UPDATE).. finding that recently runs are planned so that it is impossible to make all appointment times. Managers then want long explanations why. You might want to avoid this place. They are nice as pie and tell you all the right things up front. After being there a little bit, you will find that what they told you isn't quite so, and you will be henpecked and micromanaged.
