Pros

A good place to get your feet wet in the mental health field. Good insurance plan.

Cons

My time at Arbor was very hit or miss. Mostly miss. BHT's are the lowest paid position in the building yet are expected to do the most work and are often receiving the short end of the stick of poor programming/clinical team. Therapists make no effort to help their patient outside of their one individual therapy session a week. Clients are in group for most of their day but the groups are run poorly and group facilitators do not follow the group rules that are expected of clients. The admissions department paints an unrealistic picture to prospective clients who end up becoming disappointed once they see they were misled. There is so much time and effort put into AMA blocking once this happens. Many clients are frustrated as the Arbor Wellness website promises EMDR but is not offered as there is no therapist on staff who is licensed in EMDR therapy, and if there was, there would be no way to accommodate all clients who would benefit from EMDR therapy. Admissions also accepts high acuity patients that Arbor is simply not equipped for which stresses the BHTs and nursing staff.

Pros

The salary was better most places

Cons

The Executive Dir is too afraid to face the staff herself, so she relies on others to do her dirty work. Instead of addressing problems she manipulates people into forcing others out or they may be forced out It’s a cowardly way to run an office and it’s driving away valuable employees. Leadership should be about accountability, but instead it is get rid of everyone she doesn’t feel she has total power over acting as if she’s a queen and everyone else is a pesant

Pros

If you love helping people, that is the most positive thing about this job. Some of the staff are very caring and creative.

Cons

Arbor will break your heart if you truly care about clients because its toxic work culture negatively affects client treatment. Staff are taken for granted and spend much of their time gossiping and complaining. Management either ignores or retaliates when concerns are voiced. There is one person in middle management with a great attitude trying to make up for mismanagement and it feels too little too late. Staff turnover is an accurate reflection of leadership practices. Numerous staff members of all levels were fired or quit with little or no notice. Vulnerable clients require stability, and they complain about the inconsistencies and uncertainty.
