Pros

The location is breathtaking (on Lipsi Island), when situated at the accommodation near the main part of town. The friendships you make are life-long, such great people to work alongside.

Cons

Horrible company. Taking the governments money for their "initiatives" and no positive change to the environment is seen. The patches of sea grass replanted all died. They do not have dolphins btw. All very misleading. Most online posts are false advertisement to make it better than it is. Volunteers are rarely on boats, in the water or conducting active research. The management exploit you for your skills and will not help you achieve what you went there for. They will promise you promotions but never respond when time comes to it. So much cleaning and feeling isolated when staying at "the Sanctuary". You get into trouble when you are not working thoroughly. 9-5 working hours, minimal food. The accommodation + food is way too expensive for what you get - they try to make you feel bad when asking for more food/more protein, saying it's an island and we should lower expectations. An absolute joke.

Total Disorganized Scam

Pros

It looks amazing on a resume to work abroad ad I got to meet some amazing other interns who are as passionate about the environment as me

Cons

Their leadership is nonexistent with interns training interns without a clear protocol and the higher ups only care about their dolphin sanctuary. Extremely disorganized and supervisors will get upset over the most random things like the office being too loud with 20+ interns collaborating in a room the size of a typical living room.

Pros

I don't see any apart from the fact you'll meet cool people in a remote and nice place. Good holiday paced by daily 9am meeting that serves no purpose , and your typical camp tasks (cleaning, garbage etc etc.)

Cons

There is way too much to tell. But this place is nothing but a serious research base. This is a family business living off people's money / Erasmus grants. They have no support with the scientific community in fact it's hard to work if you require support from other organizations Most of the effort is put into digital communications, which shimmer an appealing opportunity we all fell for. I am afraid we are very close to what I would call a scam, and the problem is they have already started carving themselves a bad reputation amongst academics. In fact the only place where you will find feedbacks is here on Glassdoor and that is already a bad sign. Try to find any partnership with other organizations, or even some of their publications , read them, try to get in touch with people that have been working there... You can even search for the "Archipelagos institute of meme conservation" on Facebook. Places like this needs to be shut down. Look somewhere else.
