Toxic environment. Poorly managed.

Pros

Basketball hoop. It’s an awesome place to get away from management to discuss with your coworkers the job interviews you have scheduled. Centrally located in the muffler shop district of Tecumseh which is in the middle of nowhere. If you need to get your tires balanced or your muffler fixed you don’t have far to drive. Office used to be a Michigan department of transportation office so it has a huge parking lot for activities like watching management play with their RC cars.

Cons

Low pay. No where near market. No benefits. Five PTO days is all you get. No health, no 401k, nothing. Working from home is a no go. There was no trust in people to be grown ups and get their work done. If you had to stay home because of illness or weather, it was unpaid, even if you could complete your tasks from home. Management is obsessed with time tracking. Make sure you clock out for bathroom breaks. Treated with very little respect by management. They have a condescending attitude. Don’t be surprised to be called out in company meetings for not replacing toilet paper rolls. Management is immature. They are bosses, not leaders. Project management is lacking to say the least. Outside picnic table has no sun protection. Bring your sun block! Also, track your time while you’re outside replying to recruiters on Linkedin at the picnic table. Management includes one person that should not be in charge of people and they are in this role not because of merit but other reasons. This person created a toxic work enviroment. Get experience. Do great work. Reply to interesting jobs on LinkedIn and get out as soon as you can. Find an awesome place that will treat you with respect. This is not the place. This company is not run by grown ups but by spoiled children.

As the owner of Artonic, I would like to take the opportunity to respond to this review. - Reviewer: "It’s an awesome place to get away from management to discuss with your coworkers the job interviews you have scheduled" + Owner: Thank you for being such an upstanding and ethical employee. - Reviewer: "Centrally located in the muffler shop district of Tecumseh which is in the middle of nowhere" + Owner: We are happy to be located in the beautiful town of Tecumseh, recently rated as one of the top 100 small cities in America. We are also very proud of our amazing office (video and photos on our website). - Reviewer: "like watching management play with their RC cars" + Owner: This review (and others) must be from the one, and only one former employee who didn't like playing with the rc cars last summer. Everyone else sure had a blast with them and appreciated the fun downtime. I'm sorry it wasn't to your liking. You were not required to watch. - Reviewer: "Low pay. No where near market." + Owner: I talk with other agency owners on a regular basis and we are at or above the industry standard for a small to mid-sized digital marketing agency in SE Michigan. I have had plenty of employees reveal their past salaries to me and we are well in line. Salaries have grown faster than any other expense and at a faster rate than revenue growth. Raises and bonuses are considered after the first year. - Reviewer: "Five PTO days is all you get" + Owner: Simply not true. Everyone starts with at least 2 weeks of vacation time, virtually unlimited sick time, and at least 7 paid holidays. This amounts to at least one full month off in a 12-month period and this is the starting point. - Reviewer: "No health" + Owner: While we do not currently provide health insurance, I have a conversation with every employee about health insurance prior to an employment offer being made. I make sure that the employee has it through some other means, or that their salary will afford them the ability to purchase it on their own. So I do take care of my employees with regards to health insurance. It's less expensive and more flexible to allow everyone to get their own policy and then cover the cost through salary. - Reviewer: "Working from home is a no go. If you had to stay home because of illness or weather, it was unpaid" + Owner: Completely untrue. If the weather even looks bad in the winter, we all work from home. If someone doesn't feel 100%, they may work from home. If someone has a doctor’s appt, they may work from home. If someone has a client appointment closer to their house than Artonic, they may work from home. Many times, when the weather is nice, or it's the day before a holiday, I send everyone home early, or we all work from home. I have been told by employees in the past that I'm too lenient with work-from-home time or cutting out early on nice days. I guess I can't please everyone. - Reviewer: "Management is obsessed with time tracking. Make sure you clock out for bathroom breaks." + Owner: As an agency, we are essentially selling our time. Many of our clients pay for a set amount of time for our services each month. This requires that we track our time. Yes, you should turn your client's timer off if you're using the restroom in the middle of working on their account so they aren't charged for the time that you are using the restroom. All we require is to accurately track your time on client projects so that we can invoice our clients accordingly. - Reviewer: "Treated with very little respect by management. They have a condescending attitude." + Owner: I have the upmost respect for all employees at Artonic and it's disheartening to see a comment like this. - Reviewer: "Don’t be surprised to be called out in company meetings for not replacing toilet paper rolls." - Owner: No one has been called out in a team meeting for not replacing toilet paper rolls. - Reviewer: "Outside picnic table has no sun protection" + Owner: It most certainly does. We have a nice, large umbrella that does a great job keeping you in the shade. - Reviewer: "track your time while you’re outside replying to recruiters on Linkedin at the picnic table" + Owner: I'm glad everyone can see the type of person that left this review (and several others on this page). This comment and several others on this website were made by the same person. To future potential applicants, I encourage you to speak with me directly and please feel free to reach out privately to any of my current employees to ask them what their opinion of the company is. It's unfortunate that this reviewer felt the need to lash out at my company on this website, but it clearly wasn't a good fit and I wish him/her the best in the future. At the end of the day, my number one purpose for continuing to build and grow Artonic is to provide a great place for people to work.

A Place to Gain Experience

Pros

You have the opportunity to learn different skills. Oh, and you get a free copy of "The Elements of Style". I learned a lot there that I've taken to another agency and thrived. The pay is pretty on par with a decent rural job, but if you live in the city the compensation probably won't cut it. Also, the benefits are pretty on par with what similar sized agencies offer so it's not really that big of a deal. It's the price you pay for agency life.

Cons

There can be, like most offices, a dash of passive-aggressiveness. Sometimes there's more than a dash, and it seems to stem from management's paranoia. There's just a general lack of trust between the parties.

If you respect education and a real career, go elsewhere

Pros

You will gain solid relationships with coworkers who are also being treated the same way you are. Great workers who have respect for one another. You will discuss other opportunities and interviews to go elsewhere.

Cons

No benefits, awful PTO, extremely low salary compared to industry standards. The worst management experience you will ever encounter. You will be treated like a child and that you know nothing. All ideas will be turned down and management will talk about you behind your back. Plenty of potential for the business to grow but personal relationships stand in the way. Zero respect for the education system and college degrees. They believe they are industry experts. Don't waste your time. If you have respect for yourself, education, and general self esteem, take your chances in the current job market.

As the owner of Artonic, I would like to take the opportunity to respond to this review. - Reviewer: "No benefits" + Owner: I assume the reviewer is referring to health insurance. While we do not currently provide health insurance, I have a conversation with every employee about health insurance prior to an employment offer being made. So I guess this is technically true, however, if the reviewer is suggesting that malicious things are said about someone behind their back by management, that is absolutely not true. - Reviewer: "Zero respect for the education system and college degrees" + Owner: I have great respect for the education system. My parents were teachers. Many educational institutions are clients of Artonic. Several of Artonic's employees have degrees from local universities. The knowledge from the degree is more important than the degree on paper. - Reviewer: "They believe they are industry experts" - Owner: We are. That's why businesses hire us. Are we #1 in the world out of 100K agencies, probably not, but we strive to be and there is no question that we are one of the top agencies in Michigan. I am looking at what each review has in common and coincidentally, almost all of the negative reviews were posted in the same week, which is odd considering that we have never had four employees leave the company in the same week.
