Not an NP job

Pros

Not in an office. Job is great in idea. Easy first job. Great pay.

Cons

Over scheduling of patients, no breaks for lunch or bathroom fit into your days; you are scheduled to see patients for 9 hours/day. No time is built into your day for charting or call backs; your evenings consist of performing call backs or leaving messages with various physician offices. The areas you cover will vary and can result in traveling over 100 miles/day depending on the patient schedule. One thing I really did not like was the lack of autonomy, this company is a consult service therefore you make recommendations and are not making any decisions. This job is an excellent job for a strong RN, this is not an NP position, however RN's are not billable providers. Work life balance is hard to obtain unless you have an established area or you out right refuse to see additional patients. You must be very willing to speak up for yourself. Lots of changes on an almost daily basis. Benefits are not good, high premiums for insurance, no match for 401k.

Pros

providing care to palliative care patients

Cons

No lunch breaks for the Field nurse practitioners, no small breaks, no bathroom breaks. But the Nashville office staff have lunch breaks, small rest breaks, and bathroom breaks. Aspire health should ensure that field nurse practitioners have at least one 30 minute break in between patient visits to go to the bathroom, take a few deep breaths, and get a snack to eat. The nurse pracittioners are the ones that bring the money to the company and you don't give them a small break, that shows how much you care and respect your nurse practitioners.

Pros

Able to support patients and families in need at a time when they need it most. Benefits are about average.

Cons

1. This company is the "largest non-hospice provider of palliative care". When a patient is admitted, the first thing we are shoving down there throats is transitioning to Hospice. Even if the patients and there families don't want Hospice. The goal of this company is to save the insurance companies money by convincing the patients they need to get on Hospice and stop pursuing curative therapy. This company is the bridge between the patient and Hospice , and it seems the patients are coaxed into being on Hospice even if they don't want it. It seems unethical . 2. You must allow availability for telephonic meetings, even though you aren't compensated for them. Paid 40 hrs, availability must be at least 45.
