It could have been great... but it's not

Pros

Fantastic location. Cool place. Discounts in beer and beer taps for employees. Love for beer from the "specialists". Those specialists are really trying to build something, in spite of the hurdles put by Management. Free Beers after work, mainly now with so many people let go, no need to wait for Friday drinks, having them almost daily.

Cons

Micro-management. Everything is about the Founders (Management Team) and especially the big boss. It does not matter what they hired you to do, or what is the expertise you bring. You will need to act and activate exactly what the Founders want. Usually it's what the big boss wants, as there is little challenge around and he has gotten rid of some expert individual contributors and leads, and kept as Chiefs only the loyal followers. Work with dated / non-scalable solutions & tech. A few great guys in Technology, hopefully can go around the CTO... having the platform down when it matters is disappointing. Strategy and KPIs change almost bi-weekly by the big boss. It's impossible not to get lost, and also impossible to deliver anything of value that takes more than 2-4 weeks, as there is no focus nor consistency. How can we even track of our evolution if we don't maintain the KPIs for a bit? Selfishness, personal agendas, backstabbing. Everytime there is a problem, everyone looks at any other side and starts finger-pointing. No common cause, no team joining forces to sort it out. Everyone on their own, blame game starts. When resizing, loads of valuable people are out - but it starts with those that voice an opinion, challenge or disagree witht he Founders, and especially the big boss. Not thinking and just acting (only when they tell you to) pays off in job security.

Pros

It was good in the beginning... Some of my colleagues had become good friends. Beers on Friday.

Cons

It's been about a year since working for the company, and now that enough time has past, I can write about my experience from a more objective point of view. When I started it was great. It had a truly start-up culture, and you can tell everyone was excited, creative, and ambitious to build a really nice product and atmosphere. This started to fall apart when the company merged with another Heineken company. MT and some of the appointed department heads were not qualified or the best fit for the job. Thus, the leadership were making poor decisions (poltical and strategic) to better only themselves and their own career. This had a major impact on the team I worked in as we were overworked, felt unappreciated, with no regard for mental health especially since COVID in 2020. This paired with an unqualified department leads, led to inevitable burnout. When trying to reach out to HR about a difficult time coping and dealing with team leads and MT, I did not feel supported or heard, so there was no one in the company to turn to. It was a really horrible experience in my last year of working there.

Politics, personal agendas, silos

Pros

Great location, beer, some nice colleagues

Cons

Silos, people going for personal gain instead of company, management that has an agenda to hire cheap and get rid of any opinionated people (with higher salaries usually), promised contracts get cancelled, lots of people being let go this year, no annual contract evaluations, MT-members that are not performing or just there to compete for awards, and so on
