Good, but not Great

Pros

This company is just making the transition from small to mid size. With that opens a lot of doors for new opportunities to find your niche in the management hierarchy. The work can be pretty good, but it's all contract work and can vary greatly from embedded systems, web services or system admin. Outside of work, BTI360 does a good job of setting up fun events if you choose to come to them. But no teleworking and (almost) no being on call or work after hours or the weekend. Work is work and home is home.

Cons

Only very specific personality types get to get in the 'leadership team's inner circle. Anyone who is not a charismatic extrovert type tends to get pushed around for 3 or 4 years before leaving the company. A lot of the 'benefits' seem nice on the surface, money for school, computer, technical conferences, however read the contract before you sign else you'll quickly find that it'll cost you $10k to quit your job, and that once you break it down that $2000 computer tech money only comes every 3 years, which works out to $55/month, not that great afterall

Pros

I don't usually write reviews, but when I saw a negative one on here, I felt I had to chime in. You would be hard pressed to find a better company than BTI360. The benefits are great, the work life balance is great, the outside of work activities are great. As far as tech companies go though, that isn't actually that extraordinary. What sets BTI360 apart are all the other "benefits". Words are very easy for a company to throw around, but BTI360 adds actions to the words. Here are a few examples: * "We care about our employees" - I was working at BTI360 during the government shutdown a few years ago (contractors were also furloughed along with gov employees). Most of my friends were forced to blow through their vacation balances. Some were forced to take leave without pay (LWOP) because their companies couldn't afford everyone to take vacation at the same time. BTI told everyone to show up to the corporate headquarters for a series of tech-talks, and kept people on overhead for the duration of the shutdown. * "We are family friendly". At BTI360, not only do they offer a fully funded health benefit, but I think the CEO knows the names of just about every one of the teammate's spouses and children (if applicable). He and his wife also have dinner with prospective teammates before giving out an offer, just to get to know them. * "We give back to our community" - Ok lots of companies do Habitat for Humanity, and food drives, and give charitable donations. BTI360 does all of those things. They also sponsor children in third-world countries, and installed a water treatment facility in an impoverished community that didn't have clean water, drastically reducing the rate of dysentery and the cost of clean water for those people. I don't know many other small companies that give back like that. * BTI used to have a slogan on the wall at HQ that said "Most companies use their people to build their business, we use our business to build our people". That is absolutely taken to heart. I saw on numerous occasions BTI used corporate relationships to get people into more (personally) desirable/fulfilling positions, and used overhead funding/training and technical mentoring to help that person be successful in their desired position. * "We are a forward leaning tech company" - I truly believe BTI360 is forward leaning. The teammates are top notch technically, and the company does a lot to encourage people to expand their technical breadth and depth, and share what they have learned with the rest of the team. A couple examples of this are company sponsored (read: pay for your time) "code retreats", tech talks/technology exchanges, encouraging attendance (and in some cases sponsoring) of tech conferences, etc. * "We have a flat management structure" The leadership team is always available to chat/hangout or get together for lunch/etc. The CEO is busy, but he always makes time for people. Your concerns are always heard by the leadership team, and they are always looking for feedback. * "We have a great culture" - the CEO has said on multiple occasions that he views his primary job as preserving the company culture, and it shows. I don't want to go tit-for-tat with the negative review (hopefully you get the idea from my review that BTI360 is a GREAT place to work), but I did want to address one in particular. The comment that there is some sort of exclusive leadership inner circle, is really unfounded. I have rarely seen any company that does more to encourage their employees/teammates into leadership roles than BTI360. Regardless of personality type, or experience level. They encourage people take leadership roles in whatever the person's forte is, whether that be technical, community outreach, corporate, outside-work activities, etc. I've said a lot, but I could go on and on. BTI360 is really a terrific company, and I couldn't recommend it more.

Cons

Honestly, I'm not sure I can come up with any real cons. If there is something that teammates don't like, they can discuss it with the leadership team. In one case, a single teammate was not happy with the insurance carrier. BTI360 did an extensive market survey, and ultimately offered a side plan in case you didn't like your (excellent) health insurance.

A Company That Cares

Pros

I have worked at two large contracting companies in the past (same customers as BTI360, so it’s a fair comparison), and the difference between BTI360 and the others is night and day. The pay, benefits, people, individual growth, career opportunities… everything I can think of is better at BTI360. I could not imagine ever going back to a large contracting company after experiencing first hand how amazing this company is, and it seems unlikely that I’ll leave at all given that I’ve been there for 5+ years. Other small companies can match BTI360 on a few of the pros I mentioned above, but they fall flat where BTI360 especially excels -- investing in its people. BTI360’s mission statement is “Building Ultimate Teammates”, and I see evidence of that in everything the company does. They host an all-hands once a month to discuss the latest company news, and then turn it over to presentations, code katas, hackathons, and more. The company will send you to conferences, both near and far. They encourage you to write blog posts, host the different types of presentations mentioned above, talk at conferences, and much more. They have a book concierge service that will buy you any technical book and deliver it within two days (yours to keep). They have a mentorship program for young engineers. They have a College Hire program for building the next generation of Ultimate Teammates, and the myriad of opportunities that come along with guiding them to success. They hold programs like Collaboration 101, Clean Code 101, Spark 101, AWS 101, and more to elevate our engineers to a skill level that’s widely respected by our community. I’m missing many other things that the company does to invest in its teammates, but believe me when I say other small companies don’t offer a fraction of what I just mentioned. The company also does a great job of setting up fun events, as others here have mentioned. The events have become more eclectic as well, giving everyone something to enjoy. BTI360 has hosted poker, golf, escape the room, cooking classes, a scavenger hunt, and many more events. Finally, the company is proactive at keeping teammates happy on the job. If you’re not pleased with your current project, want a new challenge, or just want to see what else is out there, they’ll find a way to get you to another project as quickly as possible. Make no mistake, you will work on interesting and challenging problems.

Cons

There isn’t anything that comes to mind right away. If I had to come up with something, I would say that I hope they continue on increasing their diversity, this being an issue that many software companies are currently facing.
