      Elsewhere is better, especially if you are a litigator

      Pros

      The islands is nice in the summer. The non-contentious side of the business is lovely, as is the marketing, HR and finance teams.

      Cons

      I am not normally one for giving reviews... but I feel it important to share this. The management of the litigation team is simply awful. In fact they have no management skills whatsoever. I really wish I'd considered the reviews on here before joining. Comments from senior members of the team / management about other members of staff behind their backs and negative comments about other lawyers on the island were not unusual. Management would also be jokily frustrated when matters settled (the gravy train must keep going). I have deep regrets about ever working there.

      Pros

      Working in Guernsey counts toward time needed for British citizenship.

      Cons

      The firm is about one-third of the size it was a decade ago, thanks to the way partners fight with each other and treat their associates. Turnover is extremely high due to job dissatisfaction. My experience was that the partners had no understanding of what their roles were and undermined rather than supported associates. The partners thought their role was to horde work, brag about their billable hours and yell at and insult their staff.
