Pros
It’s better than being unemployed. Free breakfast once a week and a firm lunch once a month. Jeans on Friday.
Cons
Overbearing, incompetent, and ineffective management. Moral is very poor. Training of office procedures and processes is essentially left to the individual employees to pursue and there is very little consistency or structure. Office rules are unnecessarily restrictive (no food at your desk) and applied randomly depending on the mood or preferences of the manager. The so-called office ‘culture’ is cliquish, puerile, and at times, openly hostile. There is insufficient administrative support for dealing with inter office conflict, employees who feel marginalized or treated unfairly are left little or no recourse but to quit. Remedial work is doled out as a punitive measure for questioning procedure. Advancement is nearly impossible as the goal posts are constantly moving (what is right today is wrong tomorrow) and even experienced support staff will find themselves underutilized, bored, and frustrated.
