Terrible culture instilled by the founders. Extremely hierarchical, it’s a small startup that behaves like a corporation. You spend your time making reports and having meetings about meetings. But you still have to get your work done, which makes the workdays long and mentally exhausting due to the wear from meetings. If you want to work asynchronously, it’s impossible because the culture is entirely synchronous.
The founders have a very bad way of working, which is passed down through managers to individual contributors. Their main characteristics are: terrible communication, they will hide relevant information that you need to do your job; micromanagement, they will want to control even how you breathe; lack of empathy, they don’t care about professional growth or employees’ concerns, creating a very toxic culture; inconsistencies, since every three days the priorities change, and weeks are wasted planning OKRs that serve no purpose other than to confuse the team; there are favorites, which creates a bad atmosphere because, in similar situations of success or failure, the favorites receive praise or understanding, while the non-favorites only get scolded.
