Pros

- generous 40% employee discount on products - frequent access to free beauty samples - occasional remote work is allowed (snow days, sick days, etc.) - company has name recognition - occasional paid travel to trade shows

Cons

- pay employees under market value -company culture is currently non-existent -company is led by one family (nepotism is rampant) When I started at Beekman 1802, it was a smaller company, run completely by the owners. Over time, they hired C-suite execs. The brand was authentic - the owners talked the talk but they also walked the walk. They were interested in seeing ALL of their employees succeed. Because of that, employees gave them 110% in everything, often working long hours and 60+ work weeks because they genuinely enjoyed and cared about what they were doing. The culture was phenomenal - all of the co-workers got along fabulously. You were able to easily go to upper management with a problem, question, etc. In 2018, there was a merger with another company. That is when the brand's company culture quickly started deteriorating. The new company (family-owned), quickly began firing loyal employees (including the C-suite) in order to place their own family members in executive positions. The owners were nowhere to be found as nearly a dozen full-time employees - all of whom had been there at least 1 year - were let go for seemingly no reason, with no prior write-ups or offenses. They are the face of the company and that is it. Beekman is turning into any other corporate America office. Don't be fooled by the promises in interviews, unless you're ok with nepotism and nobody around to have your back.

Amazing Co-Workers But Exceedingly Toxic Work Culture

Pros

- My coworkers were the most welcoming group of people I could have ever asked for. They truly embodied kindness from my first day to my last day. - The Founders were always great to work with. One of them preferred to keep more to himself compared to the other, but both of them are very genuine. Their TV personas truly are just them! It was always a delight to interact with them when I could.

Cons

The main breakpoint of why I no longer work at the company and what I warn others about is: Extreme micromanagement from executives. Even if you are a Director-level staff member, you will not be trusted by certain executives to do your job. Your work will CONSTANTLY be second-guessed in unprofessional manners. Constructive criticism is wonderful, but the way I and others were treated was with sincere hostility. Certain high-level executives will absolutely rip you a new one without any feedback on what you could have done better and oftentimes set you up to fail by assigning tasks but ultimately shaming you for not doing it how they wanted you to do it. This led me to feel like I was not worthy of having my job, not respected for my skill set, and not able to grow in my career.

This Company Is A Sinking Ship

Pros

The people. Working in the trenches together day in and day out allows you to build lasting bonds and friendships.

Cons

I started here optimistic and full of positivity, but the toxic environment and burnout took their toll. The company has changed over the years. The values it once practiced and projected are now only just a facade. The "Kindness" philosophy and lifestyle preached to the masses by the brand are not reserved for its employees. It's all an act. A word to hook people. A marketing tactic. I could never have imagined witnessing and being a part of such a collectively miserable, overworked, and severely underpaid group of employees. The executives take advantage of their talented teams and pay them less than any other company out there. Getting a raise is like fighting a losing battle. The employees that remain at this company deserve proper support, pay, recognition, and to feel valued. The company is riddled with nepotism and preferential treatment. They wait until you are hired to let you know how it works. Who's untouchable, the relationships, and where not to tread. These few specific people can say and do whatever they want and will never be reprimanded or asked to change, regardless of how it affects other employees or the company itself. Some wield their power, and some use it to do nothing and collect a paycheck and praise. The Marketing department is in constant chaos. This is not due to the people within it but due to its unorganized and underqualified leader. The team is hit with unrealistic expectations, constantly pivoting based on the whims of different executives and the marketing department leader. At the same time, their thoughts and opinions on the matter at hand and how it will perform are ignored. When the team executes the work behind these "disruptive" big ideas, and it doesn't perform, leadership is shocked it didn't have the desired outcome despite multiple teams sharing their concerns from the beginning. The leadership of this department will be its downfall. I was not the first person to leave and will not be the last. This company will continue to lose quality people and will never reach the level of success they so dearly crave if they don't practice the Kindness they preach regarding how the company is run and its employees.
