Pros

Established weekly schedule Partially compensated flight to Japan

Cons

Job duties hardly coincides with job description during interview. Lesson plans are created by people who can barely speak English, so they are wildly inaccurate and often blatantly wrong. Incompetent and uncaring management. Teachers are dancing monkeys with no autonomy. No room for personal growth or development. Foreign instructors are at the mercy of the Japanese lesson partner, who often can speak limited English themselves and is too demanding.

Pros

Pay isn't bad Support is good Kids are the best Decent lesson plans, though you need some time to prepare. Most prep I do is for Playgroup which has two songs/dances a lesson. They have directions on how to do dances but they can be a little boring sometimes so you can make your own dance if you want. I feel like the company does try to work with you on issues and offers trainings and workshops. During COVID-19 we're doing our best to make sure everyone is safe and taking precautions to reduce the risk of infections. It is a little bit of a challenge but so far it has not been so bad.

Cons

Depending on your schedule you could have classes back to back with barely a moment to catch your breath before the next class starts. Though, you could run to the bathroom real quick. You can have HUGE gaps between classes. You could have one class early in the morning and then have a 4+ hour break until the next one. For me it is a con because I can't go anywhere else as the trains only run twice an hour and if I left I would be late for my next classes. If you're full time you can be sent all around the Kansai area. Though if you're unsure of how to get somewhere they will do their best to help you. They want you to work even if you're sick or feverish or injured. I've injured my knee before and was told that I should go in and that I could use a chair.
