Pros

You might get to work with some other people for a short amount of time ..

Cons

You are a number, you don’t perform and get budget constantly, they will find a reason to terminate your employment. The constant pressure from store management and even worse upper management is constant and leads to bullying and unfairness in knowing you must make budget and loyalty and bonus offers .. do not count on senior members of your steamto help you in any way.. even if it’s your first week, they will take your sales , refund your lay-bys and put under their name .. and you won’t have a leg to stand on. You don’t get paid for any staff meetings or launches - they go for 1.5hrs -2hrs on average.. you will not get legally entitled rest breaks .. let alone rest and lunch breaks filled in on your roster .. Rosters may come out two days before that fortnight, maybe the night before... it will then be changed constantly at their whim and without warning.. and it is your responsibility to make sure you turn up for shifts , there is no consultation over shift changes .. You will not get paid for a minute over your rostered time even if you are with a customer making a sale or just serving .. if you end up working 20-30 minutes over your rostered hours you do it for the love apparently.. you will not get your legal 12 hours in between shifts especially at Xmas nor will you be paid the correct penalty rates .. the list goes on ... do yourself a favour seriously, you will be treated abysmally .. run .. you do not want to work here , I promise you

Pros

People you work with are nice. Good discounts on certain items.

Cons

Ridiculous KPI’s. Good luck achieving them even with excellent service. Terrible management. Felt bad when customers returned faulty items and you would have to refuse service. Mentality of ‘who you know’ not ‘what you know’ to get ahead in this company. Ridiculous rostering. If you refuse a day when they need you, good luck getting any hours. Ridiculous team training. Treating adults like children, throwing out Freddos for right answers, if you refuse to participate in child games it was looked down upon. Of all retail environments I’ve worked in this was by far the worst.

Pros

Overall culture varies store to store and mid management is ok- but turns a blind eye to anything staff welfare related.

Cons

Especially since being bought by Michael Hill the company puts on a face that they are fair, they have a work life balance and they are disability friendly; This is only somewhat true. I have observed discrimination in the workplace due to disability, living situation, race, age and income. There is an unpaid overtime culture where you're not forced to work OT outside of specific occasions, but not working unpaid hours on a weekly basis is considered "slacking". Also the ability to get all of the required work completed AND meet excessive sales targets almost always requires out of hours work due to intense understaffing and lack of training. Staff are being paid the minimum legal wage and told it's because we have the ability to earn commission and bonuses. Bonuses are rarely handed out even when conditions are supposedly met (new conditions are introduced as needed in order to deny bonuses). Ten minutes breaks are not forbidden but certainly not encouraged and falling sick is very much viewed as something "popular with the young generation" no matter the cause.
