Pros

- They pay very well - The people are very nice and outgoing for the most part - The company's product fills a genuine gap in the market that also helps people

Cons

Terrible leadership and guidance. The product (when I was there) was MVP at best, performance was shocking and UX needed a lot of work. They focussed on new tooling to sell more rather than retain which wasn't for me They also changed processes a lot, too much. I am all for trying new things to see if they work but every change they made was given a week, maybe 2 to see results before they would try something new again. It was very hard to keep up with these changes. Some of the policies were also very odd (e.g. code review was a bottle neck so let's not do them). If you didn't like how things were run, you need to stay silent. As a Senior Engineer, I expected my input to be valued and at least considered, however, I wasn't there to run my team. I was there to echo the CTO and by not doing so failed my probation

Pros

Honestly, none. Unless you'd like to work for a company that fakes a healthy culture, benefits and salaries to get talented people through the door. Or if you're looking to join a company that laid off half of their employees from one day to the other or else they would have had to shut everything down.

Cons

They really know how to fake it! Will make this place feel like the most amazing place you've ever worked for until they don't need you anymore. They make it seem like they have this amazing culture where they value and care for their employees so much, but they will not stand by that when the hard times come around. They kept gradually letting go of people and hiding the reasons by saying that the role "was not relevant anymore." Until half of the company was laid off from one afternoon to the next morning, no notice, no humanity or empathy when delivering the awful news. The severity of the situation was never even mentioned during any of the company weekly meetings. I continuously met targets and worked hard to bring revenue to the company, this was not taken into account when they picked and chose who to let go of. HR said that if they hadn't done this, the company would have had to completely shut down by September 2023, doesn't sound like a workplace I'd like to be part of. Made sense to later hear that the head of people had jumped ship after the lay offs! All the leadership roles are filled with the CEO's besties, mostly men who will just hire their other guy friends and give them a sense of autonomy over other female coworkers that actually have their same job title. The worst part is that the product itself is literally crap, like something that was built years ago and in my time at the company I saw no improvement of this.

Pros

Mostly a friendly bunch of people, the company has a super generous holiday allowance and is quite focused on work-life balance.

Cons

This is basically a sales company disguised as an ed-tech. There's not really a clear vision of what the company's mission is and it's mostly a chase of what will bring quick revenue, meaning pretty much everything is built to MVP stage and then dropped to make room for the next sales target and nothing is followed through because quality is not a priority for leadership. Some key elements of the leadership team don't have the necessary experience which results in subpar decisions affected by poor domain knowledge. A lot of apparent good intentions but that are very much lip service be it salary benchmarks (where they will still offer people the minimum possible anyway), progression (if you want to move, it's completely up to you to figure out how because there's no development support) or diversity (not at all clear what the policy on that is other than a slack channel).
