“Micro-managers”

Pros

You will be exposed to many facets of employment, benefits, labor law, and reimbursement claims with the opportunity to research and address unique issues .

Cons

There is a revolving door of associate attorneys and staff. If the firm had an HR department, it would see more action than a superior court. This is a small firm with a three-person family partner/management structure that is not open to the promotion of non-partner attorneys.

Pros

The office hours were good?

Cons

Everything else. The firm has no future. It keeps losing staff - all five associate attorneys it employed in the past five years. The firm got in trouble for misclassifying all of its staff as independent contractors except for the front desk help. And the front desk person was improperly classified as exempt - she sued the firm and won. This firm claims to fight for the working man through its representation of labor unions, but when the owners line their pockets by deliberately breaking labor laws with respect to proper worker classifications? That is shameful. On top of that, there are no benefits. No PTO. No chance for advancement.
