Chaotic and neurotic. A toxic place to work.

Pros

A friendly talented team, great client projects and partner relationships, neat space. Plenty of unique machinery and opportunities. Rather flat hierarchy and little bureaucracy. It's a very creative place.

Cons

Operationally poor and risky. Lacks leadership & business acumen. Bilio often feels like a big & lil bro fraternity than a confident, business-savvy family firm—unpredictable, erratic, and prone to self-sabotaging drama that jeopardizes relationships and deadlines. Impulsivity is prioritized over business and professionalism. The workplace violent tirades make everyday feel like an HBO sitcom. As a small company, you’ll wear multiple hats. For example, you may become a babysitter (for management’s children), an unlicensed therapist, or an emotional punching bag. They take pride in blending personal endeavors into the workplace environment. Management will individually test you and the lies are frequent, but distinguishing between manipulation and their genuine loss of touch with reality gets challenging. To be fair, bilio was a decent place to work before the spiritual descent into delusions, third eye triangles, and manic conspiracy tirades. Still frat-like and operationally poor, but significantly less erratic, insane, and scary.

Pros

The team members are highly skilled, supportive, and genuinely care about the work they produce. There's a strong sense of camaraderie, and I made some lasting connections during my time there. The creative energy within the team is palpable.

Cons

The executive leadership exhibited a pattern of erratic decision-making, which often resulted in unnecessary chaos and stress for the team. Sudden shifts in priorities, unclear communication, and a lack of strategic vision created instability.

This Company was founded over a decade ago with no outside investment, no shortcuts, and no illusion that it would be easy. Every role we offer is more than a job—it’s an opportunity to build something real, with real ownership, in real time. It is wonderful to hear you felt the energy of the team. That camaraderie is hard-won and deeply valued. But the frustration you shared is recognized too. What is observed here, and still needs work, is a deeper misalignment—not just of actions, but of mindset. This Company demands double-loop learning: the ability to question not just outcomes, but the systems, habits, and assumptions behind them. When people default to single-loop behavior—focusing only on what leadership is or isn’t doing—it creates a pattern that repeats, instead of evolves. That’s not how we learn and grow, together. It's also important to note: leadership is part of the team and many team members are leaders in their own right. This wasn’t a one-sided relationship. And in a small, agile environment, the expectation isn’t passive execution—it’s engaged contribution. The long-term strategic vision was clear. You applied for this role as a step in your journey. We extended it as a shared opportunity. We both took a chance. While this review is anonymous, we’ve always believed meaningful progress happens in real conversations, not public ratings. We stay close with the great people we work with—partners, clients, collaborators, alumni, and past or future employers. This is a small, interconnected world. Feedback is welcome. But so is accountability. This isn’t a place for spectators. It’s a place for builders.

Pros

The work was compelling, supported by a highly talented and passionate team. This environment demanded a strong self-starter mentality to overcome the structural chaos and leadership shortcomings. However, this potential evaporated when the company hemorrhaged staff via brutal firings (both secretive and public) and resignations. Business relationships also became tenuous due to leadership missteps, quickly turning the staff's daily tasks from developing cutting-edge product with high-end clients to cleaning the lab and moving furniture at the whim of the CEO.

Cons

The core issue is a deeply toxic and negligent company culture in which employees are treated as disposable goods by leadership. Bilio's vision felt admirable until goal posts were continually moved, and staff were subjected to near-constant bullying, manipulation, and screaming. This workplace is neither safe nor pleasant by any professional standard. And the byproduct of the chaos left many without paychecks in the Bay Area in 2024/2025 with no warning.
