Pros

They keep the fridge well-stocked. Unfortunately, this is so they can keep their employees working through their lunch break. Management says this break can only be 30 mins, and you have to clock out for it. (No one does this, because they can't afford not to. I knew people who literally left for an hour just to get away from the oppressive management here.)

Cons

Average starting pay is awful, close to $13-$14 an hour. The minimum wage for DC is currently $11.50/hour. Let's do some math. $13.50/hr x 9 hrs/day x 5 days/week x 4 weeks/month x 12 months/year = $29,160. Many contracts will have a larger number closer to $40,000 at the top, saying you will receive a "bonus" at the end of the year making up the difference between these values. However, read the fine print carefully folks, because the bonus will only be provided when a 48 hour work week is met once all applicable leave is applied. This means you have to work at least 10 hours a day three days a week every single week (assuming you take literally no time off). So, no, all these reviews saying "overtime isn't required" are written by management because they don't want to give out that magical bonus (that no one gets) if you don't work overtime for a majority of the week. In my opinion, this place takes advantage of young college graduates who do not have a real understanding of fair pay and feel frightened of trying to fight for it so aggressively in their first job. If you're given a scam offer like this, counter it my little graduate friends. Absolutely refuse to work here unless you are given a salaried position. A friend of mine fought hard for one and won. It is possible. Don't let them mansplain "this is how the world works" to you and talk you down. Again, though, if this is what you have to go through just to receive fair pay, do you really want to work here?

Pros

-Decent benefits -Ability to lean on team members for help with projects -DC office, perfect for enjoying the city during the week -You will learn your worth (at some personal cost)

Cons

Incredibly toxic work culture with questionable managers in place. This isn't the place for creatives and free-thinkers to flourish, you are heavily judged on your love for the company above all else. Employees have been criticized for NOT working past COB, and some managers have unfortunately pressured employees to sacrifice much of their personal lives for the sake of their job (which pays far below industry average). Some managers are inconsistent in the benchmarks they set for employees as well as compensation agreements. Be prepared to record each and every conversation you have with ANYONE in management at this company. Not doing so puts you at risk of managers successfully gaslighting you. Some managers will also ignore you if it's more convenient for them to do so, entirely contradicting the "family" culture they try to instill of the minds of employees. Interviewing? Ask why the turnover rate has been exceedingly higher than industry average for the last 4 years. Sadly, I could say so much more, but I won't. Instead, I will leave you with this: the amazing thing about the DC area is that there are ENDLESS opportunities for Digital Marketing, Content Writing, and Analytics. Please do yourself a favor and look some place else.

Thank you for your feedback and positives regarding our company benefits and team. We are disappointed to learn of your negative view of our company culture and a team of managers dedicated to individuals' success within the agency. We have never criticized employees for not working past COB. Instead, we ask that team members display an ownership mentality over their work and emphasize that working past the close of business is not the sole way to show that and actually chat with members to encourage them to sign off. We want our team to show up as their best selves each day at work, and we know that you cannot give 100% if you don't have a proper work-life balance in place. Our turnover rate is proudly below the average given the Great Resignation. We never have and will never publish fake reviews to our Glassdoor page and actually don't even encourage managers or team members to write reviews because we don't want them to feel pressured to give non-authentic feedback. Our goal is to learn from the feedback of current and former team members for the betterment of the company as a whole.

Pros

A line or two on your resume if you are fresh out of college.

Cons

You should really look elsewhere if you're considering BluShark. For starters, if you have to get people to write your fake positive Glassdoor reviews because no one at the company has the heart to lie, that's saying something. Another key consideration is the average age here is 25. That means no one, except the CEO who comes in and yells at managers, has extensive professional experience or advanced business degrees to learn from. Not that there's much to learn - in most roles, you’re limited to one or two tasks, which is a hard sell when you begin looking for another job after one week. Additionally, most business decisions are made arbitrarily, without much thought put into the process or the consequences of the action. At a start-up, you expect to be able to have an active role in helping a company grow, and by extension, watch your own skills grow enormously. Instead, this company doesn't utilize its smart, capable people in establishing better processes and actually pushes back or retaliates when you give feedback. The retaliation comes in the form of asking you to work from home if you write a bad review or taking you into the president's office to give you a stern warning that makes you fear for your job security. This immature, ego-driven response works out for the company because they're not exactly trying to maximize efficiency and prove themselves to investors. No, this company is the side hobby of a powerful lawyer who could care less about the individuals who work in his SEO sweatshop. It's honestly hard to say everything I need to say about this company to save you from months of tears at night and groans in the morning. Save yourself by continuing your search. Don't settle for this.
