Pros

Remote working available (no. of days each week depending on department) Snack drawers and game room with table tennis, pool, video games. Most people are friendly and some of the tech team people are astoundingly clever.

Cons

Wages are average to lower-end of scale. Senior Management horribly detached from what’s happening “on the ground” and keep themselves distanced from the workforce. Advice from experienced people is mostly ignored, with C-Suite making the (often flawed) decisions in areas they have little or not relevant experience in. Objectives change at random, depending on who’s “shouting” the loudest, leading to much confusion. HR send out numerous surveys but rarely action/answer the pertinent questions. However, the “amazing culture” propaganda is squawked loud and often, which is somewhat ironic. Training is extremely poor, with limited options.

Hi there. We hear you and thank you for taking the time to review working at Blue Light Card. As a growing and evolving business, we know we don’t always get things right. In our regular all-company Townhalls, one of our strategic pillars is ‘make a great workplace for colleagues’. This is why our People Team do a survey every quarter. We take that feedback seriously and we make action plans, collaboratively with colleagues, to address areas for improvement and celebrate the wins. Whilst we have implemented several colleague suggested initiatives, we know we aren't perfect and there is still room for improvement. There’s much more still to do to keep Blue Light Card as a great place to work but we’re proud of the culture we’ve built so far, and work very hard to maintain it. We believe culture isn’t ‘owned’ by one person, it’s shaped by every single colleague. With that in mind, please reach out to a member of the People Team as we’d appreciate understanding more about your insights and experience here. Kim Boot, People Director.

Pros

Good people around you. Onsite games room. Pays lower end of market average.

Cons

Open plan office means constant distractions. Enforced 2 days+ a week in the office, which is not near any public transport links. HR known to bully staff. Tech Promotions are all contractors or brought in externally, rarely internally.

Thanks for your review and feedback. We know open plan working doesn’t suit everyone; that’s why we introduced a dedicated quiet room and individual pods for quiet work, and hope to introduce more soon. It's great to see colleagues in person and for teams to catch up and collaborate more effectively in the same space. We operate Hybrid working and flexibility but getting together in person in the office helps us foster better relationships and improves communication. We review factors such as transport links periodically, and do encourage car sharing where possible. We know it’s not perfect, or ideal for all. With regards HR, we're sorry you feel that way, we always uphold our professional integrity in any given situation. We do welcome contractors to our teams, to bolster our tech capabilities to work alongside us or whilst recruiting for new positions. Tech promotions are managed in an appropriate way but sometimes we need to look externally for the right skills and experience to support business needs. We know there are things we could do better and that’s why we ask for, and act on, feedback. Kim Boot, People Director.
