Pros

Some good people, although many have left--turnover is sky high, for good reason.

Cons

I want to be very intentional about sharing how miserable it is to work there unless you're an executive. They treat salaried employees like hourly staff. You're required to attend an annual work event for 12+ hours a day for 4 days without pay or comp time. And most employees hate it.

We agree Blytheco has a team of talented individuals! We don't just think they’re “good,” we think they’re great! Our culture, values, and workplace atmosphere are extremely important to us and are areas in which we heavily invest, but we understand that our culture and philosophies may not be everyone’s cup of tea. As a tightknit group, it’s often like losing a family member when someone leaves the organization. However, we encourage team members to pursue their dreams and passions, even if it leads them in another direction. While it may make us sad, turnover is a part of doing business, and it’s not always a bad thing. New team members often bring fresh, innovative ideas and new perspectives which help keep Blytheco learning and evolving. Our annual Quest event is the one time a year our entire organization gets together in one location and we have a blast! It’s several days of team building, training, guest speakers and fun activities. We’ve found that it builds tremendous team work and synergy throughout our organization. While we’d love every Blytheco employee to attend our Quest event, participation is completely voluntary. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. Believe it or not, we feel like running sometimes, too. However, we prefer to do our running in a nice charity 5K or on a treadmill.

Pros

The environment has been brought back to life with updated style, and there is now room to socialize in common areas. In terms of environment, Blytheco has hired very talented and hard-working individuals which boosts efficiency. If you can find your key people for support, it is possible to last a few years at the company.

Cons

Like most companies, the sales team drives company decisions while the administrative team suffer. Unless you are in sales, you will likely not be respected. Certain employees are elevated and not based on professional achievements nor work ethic. In terms of management, there is little support, a lot of criticism, and inconsistent expectations. Delegation is over utilized by upper management, partially because they are ill-equipped to manage the teams that they oversee. Overall, the Executives disagree on grand topics and use their staff to manipulate the company to head into the direction of their choice. The overall company is exceedingly political. The internal distress stems from the top. Work/life balance is widely preached as a benefit, yet only pertains to the Executive team. If you attempt to work from home, you will be scolded. If you're going to be successful, prepare to either set strict boundaries or work 24/7. Be warned that turnover rate is high here. As soon as you make friends, they leave. Since I have been at Blytheco, I have witnessed multiple teams disintegrate. Each month we have more departing members than the number we hire. While Blytheco has high accolades and awards, most are purchased. The culture is cult-like. We have values, that the staff must abide by but upper management do not embody. We are told not to complain or speak poorly about any issues. If you do, you will be confronted and it will become an issue. The truth is something only embraced if there is something good to be said. Meanwhile, a fun culture is highly promoted, yet poorly sustained. Staff is fearful of speaking up too loudly and conversing. Attend the company-wide meetings and you'll witness the funk in the air. Blytheco annually hosts a company-wide conference over the weekend where certain events are listed as optional. If one does not attend, one will not hear the end of it and will not move up in the company. Additionally, hourly employees that attend the 8-12 hour three day conference, go unpaid. During the conference, grievances and pain-points from the prior year are heard, but handled with reprimands from the COO.

As a company who strives for continuous growth and improvement, we appreciate your viewpoint and acknowledge that we have areas of improvement, as does every company – we aren’t perfect. Our culture is a culture of genuine passion, accountability, trust and fun. We know we could not be where we are today without the support and contributions of all team members (not just those in sales) and sincerely hope you have shared all this feedback with your manager to work towards a resolution together. While it is disappointing to hear that our cultural values, company events and conferences did not appeal to you, we know that we cannot possibly please everyone. This is a competitive industry, and we experience turn over like all businesses do. We do everything in our power to promote a healthy work/life balance and as a team have some of the highest employee engagement scores in the industry. We are proud of the direction we are headed and can only see that momentum improving for years to come.
